Cover Story: The rapid evolution of AI-generated media, or deepfakes, presents both opportunities and threats to digital communication, entertainment, and cybersecurity. Leveraging cutting-edge generative models such as GANs and diffusion models, deepfakes turn out to be hyper-realistic but fake content, raising serious concerns about misinformation and media reliability. The FF4ALL research project addresses deepfake detection, forensic attribution, and media authentication by developing innovative methodologies to fight against the illegal use of deepfakes. Analyzing current methodologies, challenges, and future directions, this study proposes solutions to improve the integrity of digital content and fight emerging threats in synthetic media.
