Cover Story: The genus Lasiodiplodia comprises important plant pathogenic fungi, yet its taxonomy remains unresolved, particularly between L. theobromae and L. brasiliensis, due to overlapping morphological traits. This ambiguity hinders accurate species delimitation and reduces the reliability of pathogen identification in disease diagnostics. In this study, we re-evaluated species boundaries using an integrative approach combining genome-scale phylogenetic analyses with detailed morphological comparisons. Our results demonstrate that L. brasiliensis is conspecific with L. theobromae and should be treated as its synonym. This taxonomic clarification improves identification accuracy and strengthens diagnostic reliability. View this paper
