December 2018 - 32 articles

Cover Story: This study explored the health and pharmacy experiences of Canadians with asthma. Patients predominantly evaluated their asthma on the basis of personal parameters and managed asthma with a common-sense approach. This pragmatic approach was extended as patients selected a "go-to" health care professional specifically for their asthma. Patients perceived pharmacist experiences in one of three ways: an impersonal provider of information, a familiar face who provided valuable insights, or a collaborator who helped them take charge of their asthma. Pharmacists were only considered the "go-to" health care professional when a collaborative relationship was present. The article concludes by discussing how pharmacists may support asthma care by developing collaborative patient relationships and inviting patients to share their common-sense approaches to asthma.
