Cover Story: As building codes evolve to support mass timber in tall structures, alternatives like cellular cross-laminated timber (CCLT) are being increasingly explored. CCLT, which incorporates corrugated panels made from underutilized small-diameter trees, remains in the early stages of development. This study explores a nonlinear finite element model using Hill and Hashin failure criteria in Abaqus to support the material’s advancement. The model effectively predicts strength and failure mechanisms under bending and shear, providing a reliable tool that may guide future CCLT design and optimization. View this paper
