Cover Story: Disaster-specific resilience and adaptation were investigated amongst individuals from the Noosa Shire following a bushfire event. The following study provides valuable insights into community resilience, particularly with respect to demographic differences, by employing the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and the Disaster Adaptation and Resilience Scale (DARS). Our results showed that older residents and homeowners had significantly higher resilience. Unexpectedly, prior experience with natural disasters had no identifiable resilience benefit. Our research accomplished the important task of establishing baseline measurements that can inform future efforts for devising interventions aimed at building resilience in the community and improving disaster preparedness.
