Cover Story: Inspired by biological development and evolutionary theory, in this work, we present a generative design algorithm driven by graph-based controllers. Truss structures (as the benchmark) grow by coupling nature-inspiring rules with engineering analysis. Local graph-inspired controllers, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and Cartesian Genetic Programming (CGP) coordinate the adaptation. The introduced methods lead to optimized structures while providing transparent engineering rules that can be reused across different design loading and constraints. View this paper
