Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the mean age of eruption of permanent teeth and their clinical emergence sequence in a longitudinal sample of children from a multi-ethnic urban population. Methods: A total of 854 children (413 females and 441 males), aged between 4 and 13 years, were examined annually for a minimum of 4 consecutive years, as part of their annual dental screening appointment. The presence of permanent teeth was recorded at each examination. Mean and median ages, with standard deviations, of individual tooth eruption were calculated, in addition to the eruption sequence, and the analysis of the data was performed using the lognormal distribution model. Regarding the error of the method, two examiners reviewed all relevant dental screening forms, and any discrepancies were resolved through consultation with the senior author. Results: The sequence of permanent tooth eruption followed a consistent pattern across sexes, with distinct differences between the maxillary and mandibular arches. In the maxilla, eruption began with the first molar, while in the mandible, it started with the central incisor. Mandibular teeth generally erupted earlier than maxillary teeth, with girls experiencing earlier eruption than boys, with some exceptions, and prolonged eruption periods. No statistically significant differences were found in the timing of eruption between contralateral homologous teeth. Conclusions: Based on the present data, the observed sequence of tooth eruption in a multi-ethnic urban population showed similar patterns across sexes. Motivation remains a central concern in second language (L2) and English as a foreign language (EFL) education, yet its underlying mechanisms are insufficiently understood. This study employs the theory of Directed Motivational Currents (DMCs) to explore periods of intense, sustained L2 motivation among Chinese adolescent EFL learners across secondary and tertiary levels. Through in-depth interviews with ten participants, this research identified the conditions (e.g., collaborative peer dynamics, vivid goal visualization) that triggered their DMC experiences. The data also highlighted how facilitative elements—such as clear starting points, personalized goal alignment, behavioral routines, and timely feedback—played a crucial role in initiating and sustaining these motivational currents. These findings contribute to DMC theory by revealing how intrinsic and extrinsic factors jointly foster and maintain high levels of motivation over time, offering valuable insights for designing targeted interventions to enhance EFL motivation and learning among Chinese adolescents. Modernizing irrigation systems (ISs) from traditional gravity methods to sprinkler and drip technologies has significantly improved water use efficiency. However, it has simultaneously increased electricity demand and operational costs. Integrating photovoltaic generators into ISs represents a promising solution, as solar energy availability typically aligns with peak irrigation periods. Despite this potential, photovoltaic pumping systems (PVPSs) often face reliability issues due to fluctuations in solar irradiance, resulting in frequent start/stop cycles and premature equipment wear. The IEC 62253 standard establishes procedures for evaluating PVPS performance but primarily addresses steady-state conditions, neglecting transient regimes. As the main contribution, the current paper proposes a non-intrusive, high-resolution monitoring system and a methodology to assess the performance of an isolated, high-power PVPS, considering also transient regimes. The system records critical electrical, hydraulic and environmental parameters every second, enabling in-depth analysis under various weather conditions. Two performance indicators, pumped volume efficiency and equivalent operating time, were used to evaluate the system’s performance. The results indicate that near-optimal performance is only achievable under clear sky conditions. Under the appearance of clouds, control strategies designed to protect the system reduce overall efficiency. The proposed methodology enables detailed performance diagnostics and supports the development of more robust PVPSs. Full article

The advanced determination of the type (foreshock–aftershock–swarm) of an ongoing seismic cluster is quite challenging; only retrospective solutions have thus far been proposed. In the period of January–March 2025, a seismic cluster, recorded between Santorini volcano and Amorgos Island, South Aegean Sea, caused considerable social concern. A rapid increase in both the seismicity rate and the earthquake magnitudes was noted until the mainshock of ML = 5.3 on 10 February; afterwards, activity gradually diminished. Fault-plane solutions indicated SW-NE normal faulting. The epicenters moved with a mean velocity of ~0.72 km/day from SW to NE up to the mainshock area at a distance of ~25 km. Crucial questions publicly emerged during the cluster. Was it a foreshock–aftershock activity or a swarm of possibly volcanic origin? We performed real-time discrimination of the cluster type based on a daily re-evaluation of the space–time–magnitude changes and their significance relative to background seismicity using earthquake statistics and the topological metric betweenness centrality. Our findings were periodically documented during the ongoing cluster starting from the fourth cluster day (2 February 2025), at which point we determined that it was a foreshock and not a case of seismic swarm. The third day after the ML = 5.3 mainshock, a typical aftershock decay was detected. The observed foreshock properties favored a cascade mechanism, likely facilitated by non-volcanic material softening and the likely subdiffusion processes in a dense fault network. This mechanism was possibly combined with an aseismic nucleation process if transient geodetic deformation was present. No significant aftershock expansion towards the NE was noted, possibly due to the presence of a geometrical fault barrier east of the Anydros Ridge. The 2025 activity offered an excellent opportunity to investigate deciphering the type of ongoing seismicity cluster for real-time discrimination between foreshocks, aftershocks, and swarms. Elevated levels of atherogenic lipoproteins are known to be associated with an increased risk of incident and recurrent cardiovascular events. Knowing that the immediate post-acute coronary syndrome (ACS) period is associated with the maximum risk of recurrent events, the gradual escalation of therapy allows the patient to remain above the targets during the most vulnerable period. In addition, the percentage of lipid-lowering levels for each class of drugs is predictable and has a ceiling. Hence, it is prudent to immediately start with a combination of lipid-lowering drugs following ACS according to the baseline lipid levels. Multiple studies with injectable lipid-lowering agents (PCSK9 inhibitors) such as EVOPACS, PACMAN MI, and HUYGENS MI have shown the feasibility of achieving LDL-C goals by day 28 and beneficial plaque modification in non-infarct-related coronary arteries. Recently, a study from India demonstrated that an upfront triple combination of oral lipid-lowering agents was able to achieve LDL-C goals in a majority of patients in the early post-ACS period. This notion is also supported by a few recent lipid-lowering guidelines advocating for an upfront dual combination of a high-intensity statin and ezetimibe following ACS. Henceforth, the goal should not only be the achievement of lipid targets but also their early achievement. However, the impact of this strategy on long-term cardiovascular outcomes is yet to be ascertained. Full article

Background/Objectives: Chronic cervical myofascial pain syndrome (CMPS) is often diagnosed in the current population by doctors of various specialties. One method of treating spinal pathology is mesotherapy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of collagen mesotherapy, as well as to assess the frequency of pain medication after mesotherapy in chronic CMPS. Methods: Patients were diagnosed and treated by an orthopedist in three different offices between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2024. The patients were diagnosed with chronic CMPS. Patients were qualified for cervical spine mesotherapy, which was performed weekly, in five repetitions. Retrospectively, based on medical records and in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria, two groups were created: group I (n = 65) with injectable type I collagen and group II (n = 65) with 1% lignocaine. Patients were evaluated using the VAS and Laitinen scale before the start of therapy, 1 week after the end of therapy, and at 3-month follow-up. In addition, the frequency of taking analgesic medications after mesotherapy was assessed. Results: After mesotherapy of the cervical spine with both injectable collagen type I and lignocaine 1%, statistically significant improvements were observed in terms of a decrease in pain on the scales used (p < 0.001), as well as a decrease in analgesic medication intake (p < 0.001). Collagen treatment yielded better results after 3 months of follow-up. No mesotherapy-related side effects were observed during the treatment or follow-up periods. Conclusions: Cervical spine mesotherapy using injectable type I collagen and lignocaine 1% is an effective and safe method for chronic CMPS. At a 3-month follow-up, injectable type I collagen appears to be more effective. After mesotherapy and at the 3-month follow-up, both groups reported less pain medication intake compared to before the intervention. Full article

Floating solar technology has gained significant attention as part of the global expansion of renewable energy due to its potential for installation in underutilized water bodies. Several countries, including the Netherlands, have initiated efforts to extend this technology from inland freshwater applications to open offshore environments, particularly within offshore wind farm areas. This development is motivated by the synergistic benefits of increasing site energy density and leveraging the existing offshore grid infrastructure. The deployment of offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) systems involves assembling multiple modular units in a marine environment, introducing operational risks that may give rise to safety concerns. To mitigate these risks, weather windows must be considered prior to the task execution to ensure continuity between weather-sensitive activities, which can also lead to additional time delays and increased costs. Consequently, optimizing marine logistics becomes crucial to achieving the cost reductions necessary for making OFPV technology economically viable. This study employs a simulation-based approach to estimate the installation duration of a 5 MWp OFPV plant at a Dutch offshore wind farm site, started in different months and under three distinct risk management scenarios. Based on 20 years of hindcast wave data, the results reveal the impacts of campaign start months and risk management policies on installation duration. Across all the scenarios, the installation duration during the autumn and winter period is 160% longer than the one in the spring and summer period. The average installation durations, based on results from 12 campaign start months, are 70, 80, and 130 days for the three risk management policies analyzed. The result variation highlights the additional time required to mitigate operational risks arising from potential discontinuity between highly interdependent tasks (e.g., offshore platform assembly and mooring). Additionally, it is found that the weather-induced delays are mainly associated with the campaigns of pre-laying anchors and platform and mooring line installation compared with the other campaigns. In conclusion, this study presents a logistics modeling methodology for OFPV systems, demonstrated through a representative case study based on a state-of-the-art truss-type design. The primary contribution lies in providing a framework to quantify the performance of OFPV installation strategies at an early design stage. The findings of this case study further highlight that marine installation logistics are highly sensitive to local marine conditions and the chosen installation strategy, and should be integrated early in the OFPV design process to help reduce the levelized cost of electricity. Achieving sustainable development goals remains a core issue in global development. In response, China has proposed the development of new quality productive forces (NQPFs) through innovative thinking, emphasizing that fostering NQPFs is both an intrinsic requirement and a pivotal focus for advancing high-quality development. Concurrently, the intelligent transformation of the manufacturing sector serves as a critical direction for China’s economic restructuring and upgrading. This paper places “new quality productive forces” and “intelligent transformation of manufacturing” within the same analytical framework. Starting from the logical chain of “new quality productive forces—three major mechanisms—intelligent transformation of manufacturing,” it concretizes the value implications of new quality productive forces into a systematic conceptual framework driven by the synergistic interaction of three major mechanisms: the mechanism of revolutionary technological breakthroughs, the mechanism of innovative allocation of production factors, and the mechanism of deep industrial transformation and upgrading. This study constructs a “3322” evaluation index system for NQPFs, based on three formative processes, three driving forces, two supporting systems, and two-dimensional characteristics. Simultaneously, it builds an evaluation index system for the intelligent transformation of manufacturing, encompassing intelligent technology, intelligent applications, and intelligent benefits. Using national time-series data from 2012 to 2023, this study assesses the development levels of both NQPFs and the intelligent transformation of manufacturing during this period. The study further analyzes the impact of NQPFs on the intelligent transformation of the manufacturing sector. The research results indicate the following: (1) NQPFs drive the intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry through the three mechanisms of innovative allocation of production factors, revolutionary breakthroughs in technology, and deep transformation and upgrading of industries. (2) The development of NQPFs exhibits a slow upward trend; however, the outbreak of the pandemic and Sino-US trade frictions have caused significant disruptions to the development of new-type productive forces. (3) The level of intelligent manufacturing continues to improve; however, from 2020 to 2023, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and Sino-US trade conflicts, the level of intelligent benefits has slightly declined. (4) NQPFs exert a powerful driving force on the intelligent transformation of manufacturing, exerting a significant positive impact on intelligent technology, intelligent applications, and intelligent efficiency levels. Climate Change of Near-Surface Temperature in South Africa Based on Weather Station Data, ERA5 Reanalysis, and CMIP6 Models

This study investigates changes in Near-Surface Air Temperature (NSAT) over the South African region using weather station data, reanalysis products, and Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) model outputs. It is shown that, based on ERA5 reanalysis, the average NSAT increase in the region (45–10° S, 0–50° E) for the period 1940–2023 was 0.11 ± 0.04 °C. Weak multi-decadal changes in NSAT were observed from 1940 to the mid-1970s, followed by a rapid warming trend starting in the mid-1970s. Weather station data generally confirm these results, although they exhibit considerable inter-station variability. An ensemble of 33 CMIP6 models also reproduces these multi-decadal NSAT change characteristics. Specifically, the average model-simulated NSAT values for the region increased by 0.63 ± 0.12 °C between the periods 1940–1969 and 1994–2023. Based on the results of the comparison between weather station observations, reanalysis, and models, we utilize projections of NSAT changes from the analyzed ensemble of 33 CMIP6 models until the end of the 21st century under various Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) scenarios. These projections indicate that the average NSAT of the South African region will increase between 1994–2023 and 2070–2099 by 0.92 ± 0.36 °C under the SSP1-2.6 scenario, by 1.73 ± 0.44 °C under SSP2-4.5, by 2.52 ± 0.50 °C under SSP3-7.0, and by 3.17 ± 0.68 °C under SSP5-8.5. Between 1994–2023 and 2025–2054, the increase in average NSAT for the studied region, considering inter-model spread, will be 0.49–1.15 °C, depending on the SSP scenario. Furthermore, climate warming in South Africa, both in the next 30 years and by the end of the 21st century, is projected to occur according to all 33 CMIP6 models under all considered SSP scenarios. The main spatial feature of this warming is a more significant increase in NSAT over the landmass of the studied region compared to its surrounding waters, due to the stabilizing role of the ocean. Objectives: To assess the role of a real-time therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)-guided expert clinical pharmacological advice (ECPA) program of isavuconazole in preventing under- or overexposure with the intent of improving efficacy and safety outcomes in the critically ill patients. Methods: This retrospective study included critical patients receiving intravenous isavuconazole for prophylaxis or treatment of invasive fungal infections (IFI) and undergoing at least one TDM-guided ECPA in the period 1 March 2021–31 March 2025. Desired isavuconazole exposure was defined as trough concentrations (Cmin) of 1.0–5.1 mg/L. Efficacy outcome was assessed by means of bronchoalveolar (BAL) galactomannan (GM) index, breakthrough IFI, and 30-day mortality rate, whereas safety was assessed by means of hepatic test disturbances (HTD). Univariate analysis was carried out for assessing potential variables associated with isavuconazole under- or overexposure and for comparing features of solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients vs. non-SOT patients. Proportions of isavuconazole Cmin underexposure, desired exposure, and overexposure were assessed at different timepoints from starting therapy. Trends over time of HTD in relation to isavuconazole exposure were assessed separately in patients having HTD or not at baseline. Results: Overall, 32 critical patients were included. A total of 166 TDM-guided ECPAs were provided. Median (IQR) average isavuconazole Cmin was 3.5 mg/L (2.1–4.6 mg/L). Proportions of ECPAs with isavuconazole Cmin under- and overexposure were 4.2% (7/166) and 16.3% (27/166), respectively. Patients experiencing underexposure had higher body mass index (30.1 vs. 25.5 kg/m2; p < 0.001). Trends of isavuconazole Cmin under- and overexposure changed over time, significantly decreasing the former (10.5% <7 days vs. 4.3% 7–28 days vs. 0.0% >28 days; p < 0.001) and increasing the latter (5.3% <7 days vs. 12.8% 7–28 days vs. 29.3% >28 days; p < 0.001). HTD occurred in 15/32 patients, most of whom (10/15) were affected just at baseline. Patients with transient or persistent overexposure trended toward a higher risk of HTD compared to those without (33.3% vs. 8.3%; p = 0.11). Conclusions: A real-time TDM-guided approach could be a valuable tool for optimizing isavuconazole exposure, especially whenever dealing with obese patients or with prolonged treatment. Full article

Background: The use of lower limb prosthesis can impact all aspects of daily life, activities and participation. Various studies have compared the microprocessor-controlled knee (MPK) to the non-microprocessor-controlled knee (NMPK) using a variety of different outcome measures, but results are inconsistent and raise the question of which type of knee is most effective. Therefore, we aimed to assess the effect of MPKs compared to NMPKs across all classified ICF domains in adult prosthesis users. Methods: Participants performed baseline measurements with the NMPK (T0). One week later, they started a four-to-six-week trial period with the MPK. Afterward, measurements were repeated with the MPK (T1). Functional tests (6MWT, TUG-test and activity monitor) and questionnaires (ABC, SQUASH, USER-P and PEQ) were used. For statistical analyses, paired t-tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and Chi2 test were applied. The Benjamini–Hochberg procedure was applied to correct for multiple testing. Results: Twenty-five participants were included. Using an MPK compared to an NMPK significantly resulted in improvements in balance and walking confidence, safety, walking distance and self-reported walking ability, as well as a decrease in number of stumbles and falls. Additionally, participants using an MPK were significantly more satisfied with their participation, experienced fewer restrictions, reported greater satisfaction with the appearance and utility of the MPK, experienced less social burden and reported better well-being, compared to using an NMPK. Conclusions: Using an MPK instead of an NMPK can lead to significant improvements in all classified ICF domains, such as improved walking ability, confidence and satisfaction and reduced fall risk. Childhood obesity is a growing global health concern, with established links to physical activity, nutrition, and, increasingly, to prenatal and perinatal factors. Emerging evidence highlights the significant role of maternal conditions such as obesity, comorbidities, nutrition, and environmental exposures in predisposing offspring to long-term metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. The “Developmental Origins of Health and Disease” (DOHaD) paradigm provides a framework for understanding how early life environmental exposures, particularly during the periconceptional, fetal, and neonatal periods, can program future health outcomes through epigenetic mechanisms. Epigenetic modifications alter gene expression without changing the DNA sequence and are increasingly recognized as key mediators in the development of obesity. This narrative review summarizes current findings on the early determinants of childhood obesity, emphasizing the molecular and epigenetic pathways involved. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple databases and international sources, focusing on recent studies from the past decade. Both human and animal research were included to provide a broad perspective. This review aims to consolidate recent insights into early life influences on obesity, underscoring the need for preventive strategies starting as early as the preconception period. Full article

To remove nickel (II) from an aqueous solution, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were modified as an adsorbent. The FTIR and SEM were used to characterise the properties of CNCs. In addition to how well they predicted reaction (adsorption capacity), the central composite design was used. The response surface model method performs well, according to statistical data. Four operational variables were studied: The initial concentration of the nickel (II) solution in mg/L, the pH, the contact period in minutes, and the adsorbent dose in g/100 mL. The removal percentage (%) was the result. The percentage removal was 98% after 178 min of contact, a starting concentration of 110 mg/L, an adsorbent dosage of 9.3 g, and an initial pH of 3.5. The R2 was 0.996, the adjusted R2 was 0.921, and the predicted R2 was 0.945. The quadratic equation was determined using central composite design. The FTIR examination revealed that the functional groups, hydroxyl groups (OH), peaked around 3300–3500 cm−1, and carboxyl groups (COOH) peaked around 1700 cm−1. Full article

Background/Objectives: Spacer dislocation is among the most frequent mechanical complications after revision total hip arthroplasty for periprosthetic hip infection. Spacer dislocations may be managed conservatively, but there are no guidelines on the rehabilitation of these patients, and the restriction of weight bearing is still under debate. Methods: We first report the case of a patient with hip spacer cranial dislocation, judged unfit to be surgically treated once more for a medium period, who started a rehabilitation program with partial weight bearing. Results: After two weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, the patient started to maintain the standing position with partial weight bearing on the affected side. Following hospital discharge we continued rehabilitation in the outpatient clinic. Despite the finding of the denervation of the ipsilateral quadriceps, three months after admission, she was able to walk for short distances using a walker, initially with the help of a therapist and then with supervision. About one year later, she was able to undergo the reimplantation of the definitive prosthesis. Conclusions: Despite the spacer dislocation, walking short distances is a feasible goal, even with assistance, wearing a brace and using a walker. Future research is needed to confirm and expand upon this observation and to understand the mechanisms underlying the development of neurological complications to implement effective prevention strategies. Impact of Snow on Vegetation Green-Up on the Mongolian Plateau

Snow serves as a crucial water source for vegetation growth on the Mongolian Plateau, and its temporal and spatial variations exert profound influences on terrestrial vegetation phenology. In recent years, global climate change has led to significant changes in snow and vegetation start of growing season (SOS). Therefore, it is necessary to study the mechanism of snow cover on vegetation growth and changes on the Mongolian Plateau. The study found that the spatial snow cover fraction (SCF) of the Mongolian Plateau ranged from 50% to 60%, and the snow melt date (SMD) ranged from day of the year (DOY) 88 to 220, mainly concentrated on the northwest Mongolian Plateau mountainous areas. Using different SOS methods to calculate the vegetation SOS distribution map. Vegetation SOS occurs earlier in the eastern part compared to the western part of the Mongolian Plateau. In this study, we assessed spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of snow on the Mongolian Plateau over the period from 2001 to 2023. The results showed that the SOS of the Mongolian Plateau was mainly concentrated on DOY 71-186. The Cox survival analysis model system established SCF and SMD on vegetation SOS. The SCF standard coefficient is 0.06, and the SMD standard coefficient is 0.02. The SOSNDVI coefficient is −0.15, and the SOSNDGI coefficient is −0.096. The results showed that the vegetation SOS process exhibited differential response characteristics to snow driving factors. These research results also highlight the important role of snow in vegetation phenology and emphasize the importance of incorporating the unique effects of vegetation SOS on the Mongolian Plateau.
