Vaccines and Public Health
Section Information
Aims and Scope
Vaccines offer protection against multiple acute infectious diseases as well as the long-term complications of such infections. Although significant progress has been made in the developed world, it has been slow in other parts of the world due to limited resources. However, public–private partnerships and investments have accelerated the progress in developing countries, as evidenced by recent COVID-19 vaccination programs and strategies.
It is estimated that mass vaccination programs have reduced mortality caused by infectious diseases by 57 million deaths worldwide every year. However, the success of vaccination programs depends on people's acceptance of vaccines, and effective education and information strategies for the target populations are crucial to support public health during vaccination campaigns. Emerging diseases present new challenges, and it is essential to support epidemiological studies to evaluate the efficacy of new vaccines in the field and their strategic use.
This section aims to publish scientific evidence on:
- New vaccine strategies;
- Vaccine-related knowledge and behaviors for specific at-risk groups;
- Vaccine acceptance and hesitancy;
- New public health approaches in promoting vaccination;
- New public health and vaccination control strategies;
- Vaccines and vaccination field research;
- New vaccine discovery.
