Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The World Health Assembly and the UN General Assembly have urgently called on nations to prioritize efforts to accelerate the transition to Universal Health Coverage (UHC). UHC is having “access to affordable and quality health care services by all individuals, irrespective of their financial status”. However, achieving UHC poses ongoing challenges and barriers, with approximately 4.5 billion individuals still lacking access to quality and essential healthcare services, which include, among other services, childhood vaccination and immunization. Immunization, which is one of the most cost-effective life-saving health interventions, is an essential component that should be integrated into UHC. In effect, this implies that immunization is one of the health services that countries should ensure is accessible and affordable, by including it in their UHC packages. Achieving UHC also involves identifying and addressing barriers to vaccination and vaccine supply chain issues.
