Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue “Transportation Technique, Management and Practice: Sustainability and Safety” is focused on two contemporary challenges of transportation, sustainability and safety. Both issues are different aspects of transportation with quite different aims, but cannot be regarded as in contradiction to one another. Recently, due to the uncertain geopolitical situation, the future of the whole economy is unpredictable to some degree. However, this does not mean that concerns about the quality of transportation can be cast aside. New technologies and ideas allow for new solutions for transportation, but they also entail new threats. This is because the far-reaching effects of newly applied transportation solutions are not yet fully understood. This can lead to the unawareness of some threats. Identifying and suppressing these threats also represent significant challenges for both researchers and practitioners. Since the matter is complex, many interdependences need to be revealed. It must be taken into account that technical and management approaches are bound together and are both equally important. Thus, the Special Issue should draw the attention of scientists, engineers, practitioners and transportation decision makers.

Sustainable transportation is a term that covers many aspects of technology, management and policy. Social and environmental impacts should also be taken into account. Some of the proposed ideas may require changes in travelers’ behavior. Therefore, this Special Issue “Transportation Technique, Management and Practice: Sustainability and Safety” welcomes papers that cover detailed solutions, wide area systems or theoretical models of the discussed problems, which will finally lead to increasing safety levels of modern sustainable transportation and will mean that transportation is less vulnerable to emerging threats.

Topics covered in the Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sustainable transportation;
  • New ideas of transportation solutions that focus on safety issues;
  • Transportation safety and transportation safety management;
  • Formal methods and models of safety issues for sustainable transportation;
  • Emerging solutions to safety issues for sustainable transportation;
  • Transportation safety policies;
  • New challenges in transportation safety.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
