Sustainable Strategies for Disaster Risk and Climate Change Adaptation
This special issue belongs to the section “Hazards and Sustainability“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sustainability is the goal of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and sustainable development is the path for humanity to achieve sustainability. However, humanity is still confronted with many obstacles at present, which prevent us from smoothly achieving sustainability. These obstacles come from both natural and socio-economic aspects. In natural systems, human beings are threatened by natural disasters. In terms of social and economic aspects, the lack of or improper strategies for responding to the threat of natural disasters will lead to the loss of opportunities to avoid major losses. Research on climate change shows that both average state changes and extreme event changes have caused human society to suffer more and more severe disaster losses. And it is projected that the future disaster risk will be on the rise. Responding to (adapting to) climate change and managing natural disaster risks is a synergistic action that will strongly support adaptation to climate change and prevention of natural disaster risks. Therefore, this Special Issue suggests a significant focus on three important research topics: (1) Quantitatively expressing the incremental results and future trends of climate change and extreme events. (2) Quantitative characterization of disaster loss processes caused by climate change and extreme events and projection of future risks. (3) Measures and actions for reducing climate change risks and managing disaster risks. This Special Issue will further clarify the interrelationship among climate change, disaster risks, and sustainability; explain the mechanism by which climate change aggravates disaster risks; and give a quantitative expression of the degree of harm to the sustainable development of the social economy. And it will provide stop-loss plans for the smooth implementation of sustainable social and economic development.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
