Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to announce a new Special Issue, ‘Green Building for Sustainability: From Testing, Design and Construction to Operation and Lifecycle Assessment’, for the journal Sustainability.
In today’s global society, climate change, which is mostly likely caused by ever-increasing carbon emissions, is a huge challenge for global sustainable development. Methods to reduce carbon emissions have thus attracted international attention. The traditional construction industry produces about 40% of global carbon emissions. Widely used construction materials, i.e., cement, steel, and glass, are all produced with high energy consumption and high carbon emissions. In addition, construction machinery undoubtedly contributes significant carbon emissions to the construction industry. It is thus of great significance to suppress carbon emissions in the construction industry to benefit the goal of global carbon reduction.
To embark on the sustainable development of the construction industry, the concept of the lifecycle of green buildings has been proposed and implemented, which may help to achieve global construction needs to the greatest extent without significantly degrading natural resources and the environment. The title of this Special Issue, ‘Green Building for Sustainability: From Testing, Design and Construction to Operation and Lifecycle Assessment’, is a comprehensive approach to creating environmentally responsible and resource-efficient structures throughout their lifecycle. This concept integrates sustainable practices at every stage, from initial testing and design to construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning or reuse.
We hope that this Special Issue of Sustainability will present interesting facts about advanced testing techniques, sustainable building design methods, intelligent and green construction technologies, low-energy-consumption operation modes and other new theories and technologies involved in the lifecycle of green buildings.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Below is a non-comprehensive overview of the key components involved in green building for sustainability:

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
