Dear Colleagues,
Plants are continually subjected to various biotic and abiotic stressors, including herbivores, disease, drought, salt, and severe temperatures. In response to these challenges, plants developed complex strategies for adaptation and survival, one of which is the synthesis and release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These chemicals are essential in plant stress responses, serving as signaling molecules, defense agents, and mediators of plant–plant and plant–environment interactions. This Special Issue of "Plants" seeks to provide a forum for researchers to present their most recent discoveries on the function of plant VOCs in stress responses. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on the biosynthesis, regulation, and functional involvement of VOCs under a variety of stress circumstances. This Special Issue, which brings together cutting-edge research, will expand our understanding of how VOCs contribute to plant resilience and adaptability, providing insights that may be used to improve agricultural production and sustainability.
We welcome submissions on the following themes (but not limited to):
- Biosynthesis and control of volatile organic compounds under stress situations
- VOCs have a role in plant defense against biotic stressors, such as herbivores and pathogens.
- The effect of VOCs on plant responses to abiotic stressors (such as drought, salinity, and temperature extremes)
- The ecological and evolutionary relevance of VOCs in plant–environment interactions
- VOC applications in agriculture include pest control and stress tolerance development.
- Advanced analytical approaches for VOC detection and profiling
This Special Issue accepts research on a variety of plant species, including crops and wild plants. We hope to provide an extensive guide for researchers interested in the many different roles of VOCs in plant biology.
