Dear Colleagues,
Global change is causing a significant reduction in the resources available to plants, thereby intensifying abiotic stresses. At the same time, population growth increases the demand for greater quantities of food and other plant-derived products. The need to develop cropping systems with lower inputs further exacerbates the abiotic stresses that plants must endure. Innovative technical approaches, such as the use of biostimulants, may offer solutions; however, research often focuses solely on their potential positive effects without thoroughly examining their mechanisms of action. A powerful method to understand plant responses—and thus mitigate the impact of abiotic stresses—is the analysis of plant physiology. These investigations are often non-destructive and provide precise insights into the underlying mechanisms. The aim of this Special Issue is to explore the physiology of abiotic stress in plants, to elucidate their response mechanisms, and to identify strategies plants employ to overcome increasingly frequent and severe suboptimal conditions.
For this Special Issue, we invite original research articles, reviews, and case studies that focus on innovative approaches, new insights, and practical solutions related to abiotic stress management, as well as investigations into the underlying responsive mechanisms in crops and horticultural plants. Submissions may cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to stress tolerance mechanisms, genetic and molecular approaches, physiological and biochemical responses, and sustainable practices.
