International Day of Older Persons—“Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, and Our Rights”, 1 October 2025

October 1 marks the International Day of Older Persons. With global life expectancy at birth now exceeding 75 years in half the world’s countries - 25 years longer than in 1950 - population ageing is accelerating, especially in developing nations. By 2030, older persons are expected to outnumber youth, driving greater demand for healthcare, social support, and dementia care. This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, and Our Rights,” emphasizes placing older persons at the center of dialogue and policy.

To support awareness and research on these pressing issues, MDPI journals in the field of Medicine and Pharmacology, Public Health and Healthcare, Social Sciences, Art and Humanities provide platforms for scientific collaboration and knowledge sharing, helping to advance solutions and build resilience.
