Dear Colleagues,
Dietary polyphenols are widely recognised as key bioactive constituents of plant-based foods, contributing significantly to human health through diverse biochemical and physiological mechanisms. Following ingestion, these compounds undergo extensive transformation, including enzymatic metabolism and bioconversion by the gut microbiota, which critically influences their bioavailability, biological activity, and systemic effects. Understanding the interplay between phenolic metabolism and health outcomes is essential for elucidating their role in disease prevention and management.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current advances in the metabolism of dietary phenolic compounds and their implications for human health. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies addressing (i) bioavailability and metabolic fate of dietary phenolic compounds; (ii) interactions with gut microbiota and resulting metabolites; (iii) molecular mechanisms underlying their biological activities; and (iv) associations with metabolic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, and neurological health outcomes. Studies integrating omics technologies, clinical interventions, and translational approaches are particularly encouraged. By bridging fundamental and clinical research, this Special Issue seeks to advance our understanding of phenolic compounds as functional dietary components and support the development of evidence-based nutritional strategies for improving health outcomes.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
