Special Issue "Leishmania and Leishmaniasis"
Deadline for manuscript submissions: closed (28 February 2021).
Interests: Leishmania; Trypanosomatidae; Molecular and Cell biology
Interests: Leishmania; Trypanosomatidae
With 1 billion people at risk of infection, 1 million new cases per year, and over 100 years of research, leishmaniases remain a societal challenge in our days. The limited therapeutic options and the absence of effective vaccines to control these protozoan infections in humans call for increasing engagement of academia, pharma industry, and funding agencies in research endeavors nourishing breakthroughs about Leishmania biology and disease mechanisms, as well as the development of innovative approaches for disease control.
This Special Issue of Microorganisms will gather relevant papers reporting recent advances in Leishmania research, from basic to translational studies. We invite you to send relevant contributions, either in the form of original research or review papers, covering different aspects of Leishmania research, including molecular and cell biology, immunology, diagnosis, host–parasite interaction, vector biology, epidemiology, and development of vaccines and drugs.
