The inaugural issue was released. The journal “Giornale di Gerontologia” was founded in Florence as the official journal of the Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics (SIGG); “Giornale di Gerontologia” was published as a print journal, initially by the University of Florence and later by Pacini Editore, serving as a key platform for Italian research in gerontology and geriatrics. |
| 2004 | An online version of the journal was launched, complementing the print edition and increasing accessibility for readers. |
| 2014 | The journal moved to an online-only format, reflecting changes in scholarly communication and digital publishing. |
| 2016 | The journal was relaunched in English as the Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics (JGG), continuing as the official open access journal of SIGG and broadening its international scope. |
| 2018 | JGG was indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics). |
| 2023 | JGG received its first Impact Factor (0.4). |
| 2026 | Publication of JGG was transferred to MDPI from Volume 74, Issue 1 (2026). JGG established the following sections:
