Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the 6th leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Cases of this cancer are most often diagnosed at a locally advanced stage and require complex and multimodal management. Tumor development and its treatment can impact crucial functions (breathing, speech, swallowing) as well as patient quality of life. Whereas the incidence of tobacco/alcohol-related HNSCC is progressively declining in Western countries, we are currently observing a drastic increase in the incidence of human papilloma virus (HPV)-induced oropharyngeal carcinomas (OPCs). HPV-related OPCs exhibit a better prognosis than non-HPV-related OPCs, and determination of the tumor HPV status is therefore a critical issue. The impact of tumor HPV status on the therapeutic strategy is highly discussed, and there are several ongoing studies investigating the role of therapeutic de-escalation in patients with HPV-positive OPC.
Significant advances have been made in the global management of HNSCC patients (minimally invasive and reconstructive surgery, radiation therapy techniques, new systemic therapies), which represents a veritable challenge. The choice of the primary treatment modality is based on a multidisciplinary discussion and remains highly debated.
For this Special Issue, I invite authors to submit studies focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and multidisciplinary management of patients with HNSCC.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
