Webinar on Clinical Medicine | New Horizons in Treating Liver Diseases in the COVID Era

The Coronavirus-19 related diseases (COVID-19), since March 2020, has spread worldwide, and has rapidly become a public health matter with several unmet issues. The global impact of COVID-19 is still perceptible both on the economic side and on that of health systems. The sudden and unexpected COVID-19 pandemic has forced all health systems to rethink the allocation of their health resources. In the acute phase of the pandemic, a large part of the resources was devoted to treating COVID-19 patients, reducing the possibility of treating many other acute and chronic diseases. Thus, during these two years, some sectors of medicine have inevitably suffered particularly from the scarcity of resources destined for them. The purpose of this webinar is to highlight how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the surgical treatment of some liver diseases and how it has impacted in liver transplanted patients and in the organ procurement systems for liver transplantation.

The following experts will be present and talk:

  • Prof. Dr. Pierluigi Toniutto, Hepatology and Liver Transplantation Unit, Academic Hospital, University of Udine, Italy
  • Dr. Ioannis Konstantinidis, Surgery, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, El Paso, TX, USA
