Section Information
The Environmental Health Section of Hygiene covers all aspects related to the assessment, monitoring, and management of environmental determinants affecting human health, with particular emphasis on hygiene practices as being key measures to prevent exposure and protect public health. It encompasses any research or review on the exposure pathways, health risks, and burden of disease associated with physical, chemical, and biological environmental hazards, with implications for public health policy and practice.
This Section places particular emphasis on the analysis of environmental exposure assessment, climate change’s impacts on health, environmental justice and health equity, and the evaluation of environmental interventions from a multidisciplinary and One Health perspective. Several topics are within the scope of the Section, such as air, water, and soil quality monitoring; occupational and environmental exposure science; built environment and urban health; chemical safety and toxicology; waste management; environmental epidemiology; and the development of evidence-based environmental health policies and risk mitigation strategies.
