Dear Colleagues,
The increasing prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases and the growing demand for healthier and more sustainable foods have intensified research on functional foods and bioactive ingredients. Significant advances have been achieved in the identification of bioactive compounds from food sources, agricultural products, and byproducts, as well as in the development of innovative food processing technologies that enhance their stability, bioaccessibility, functionality, and health-promoting potential. This Special Issue aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform integrating food chemistry, nutrition, food processing, and health sciences to better understand how food components and processing strategies contribute to human well-being. The novelty of this Special Issue lies in its comprehensive approach, linking food innovation with evidence-based health outcomes and encouraging research that advances knowledge on functional foods, bioactive compounds, innovative processing technologies, and their role in promoting human health. Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Functional foods and nutraceuticals.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Foods is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
