Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Population aging and the increasing prevalence of metabolic and degenerative disorders pose major challenges to global health. Natural compounds derived from foods, including polyphenols, terpenoids, alkaloids, and other bioactive phytochemicals, have attracted growing attention for their potential to regulate cellular senescence, oxidative stress, inflammation, and metabolic homeostasis. These bioactive molecules may contribute to the maintenance of skeletal muscle function and overall physiological resilience during aging.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the identification, characterization, and functional evaluation of food-derived natural compounds that influence aging-related biological processes and metabolic health. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, molecular mechanisms of action, interactions with gut microbiota, strategies to improve bioavailability and delivery, and evidence from cellular and animal models (e.g., Caenorhabditis elegans). Studies focusing on functional foods, nutraceuticals, and dietary interventions for promoting healthy aging are also encouraged. By integrating perspectives from food chemistry, molecular biology, and nutrition science, this collection seeks to support the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals that promote muscle health and healthy aging.
