Multifunctional Coatings in Alloys/Steels/Metals/Composites: Numerical Simulation, Techniques, Microstructures, and Mechanical Properties

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

High-end components for aviation, aerospace, and green energy, among others, must meet extremely high requirements in terms of surface properties. Conventional surface strengthening methods, such as induction hardening and spraying, are unable to meet these requirements. Multifunctional laser technologies show exceptional potential for improving the surface properties of metallic materials, which is why they are considered universal methods for improving surface resistance in modern industrial systems. Laser surface modification technologies utilize the characteristics of high-energy-density laser beams to rapidly process locally sensitive and operational areas of products, thereby achieving the desired surface microstructure effects and significantly extending their service life. The preparation of high-performance coatings on material surfaces is of great importance for the selection, design, and production of critical components.

This Special Issue aims to bring together the latest results of experimental research on multifunctional coatings on metal alloy products, metals, and composites. In addition, this Special Issue will include publications on advanced numerical simulation methods and the structural, tribological, and chemical characteristics of various types of coatings, such as organic, bio-based, metallic, and sol-gel coatings, as well as pretreatments. The method of producing these coatings is also designed to enhance the corrosion resistance of products used in various environments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
