Innovative Approaches to Circular Waste Management: Leveraging Marine and Agricultural Resources for Sustainability
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Aquaculture is the fastest-growing animal food production sector worldwide, serving as a primary source of aquatic food for human consumption. However, it faces significant criticism for its environmental impacts. Simultaneously, the rising global demand for food generates abundant agricultural wastes daily. The limited and often improper management of these wastes has created an urgent need for strategies that promote their timely utilization and valorization, ensuring agricultural sustainability and food security. Transitioning to a circular economy offers a promising pathway to address these issues. By rethinking waste management in aquaculture and agriculture, we can create closed-loop systems that minimize waste, recover valuable resources, and reduce environmental impact.
We are pleased to invite authors to submit research articles and review papers focused on innovative strategies for utilizing waste from aquaculture and agriculture. Papers that focus on integrating marine waste into agriculture practices and vice versa are highly encouraged as they can allow for the fostering of synergies that enhance sustainability across both sectors.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Valorization of aquaculture and agriculture waste;
- Extraction, encapsulation and value-added products;
- Sustainable biofertilizer and biogas production;
- New materials production;
- Microbial bioremediation of waste;
- Waste-to-energy technologies;
- Life cycle assessment of waste management practices;
- Socio-economic impacts of waste utilization.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Clean Technologies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
