Section Information
The focus of the Section Chemistry of Materials is on the design, synthesis, properties and applications of materials from solid-state, soft matter to liquid crystals and liquid materials. This comprises inorganic, organic, bio-inspired and hybrid matter. The scope of the section spans from concept-driven material design combined with their preparation and results towards the proof of concept to the engineering of materials to optimize their function for future applications. Also, work with theoretical approaches towards materials design and properties is welcome.
Contributions to the Chemistry of Materials Section of Chemistry can be in the form of original articles, communications, or reviews. In addition, Special Issues on high-impact topics will also be published.
Topics that fall within the scope of the journal include:
- Energy materials (photovoltaic, thermoelectrics, battery materials, supercapacitors, fuel cells, electrolytes, hydrogen storage, hydrogen generation, among others);
- Stimuli responsive materials (liquid crystals, soft matter, self-healing, sensors, switches, soft robotics, actuators, etc.);
- Bio-inspired materials (peptides, DNA-based materials, cellulose- and silk-based materials, bone materials, cartilage materials, bio fabrication, medicinal applications);
- Carbon-based materials (fullerenes, graphene, carbon onions, nanoribbons, nanotubes, diamond materials);
- Ion-conducting materials and storage (ionic liquids, ionic liquid crystals, electrolytes, electrochromic materials);
- Materials for spintronics and magnetic materials;
- Metals and alloys;
- Conducting and semiconducting inorganic and organic materials (photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, field effect transistors);
- Hybrid materials, composites;
- Nanomaterials and metamaterials, effects of nano-confinement in materials and interfaces, surface effects;

- Optical materials;
- Materials in the environment (environmental stability of materials, environmental effects of materials, recycling, carbon dioxide storage).
