Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Behavioral Science journal is pleased to announce a call for submissions to a Special Issue focused on innovative school-based interventions for students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). This issue seeks to showcase forward-thinking research that explores emerging trends, novel intervention models, and transformative approaches to supporting students with EBD in educational settings.

Students with EBD often face significant challenges that impact their academic success, social development, and long-term well-being. As educational and mental health professionals strive to develop more effective, inclusive, and scalable interventions, this Special Issue aims to highlight research that bridges the gap between theory and practice. We encourage contributions that not only demonstrate effectiveness, but also explore implementation science, equity considerations, and sustainability in real-world school contexts.

We invite original research studies employing diverse methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, mixed-method, longitudinal, and experimental designs. In addition to empirical studies, we welcome position papers that critically examine issues related to the testing, implementation, and scaling of interventions within school contexts.

Potential Topics Include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Emerging intervention models that extend beyond traditional behavior management approaches;
  • Innovative applications of technology, AI, and digital tools in school-based behavior support;
  • Multi-tiered and interdisciplinary approaches to intervention, including collaborations with mental health and community services;
  • Equity-focused strategies to enhance access and effectiveness of interventions for diverse student populations;
  • The role of neuroscience and cognitive science in shaping future interventions;
  • Challenges and opportunities in scaling up and sustaining school-based interventions;
  • Policy and implementation considerations for integrating new interventions into educational settings.

We look forward to your contributions to advancing the future of school-based interventions for students with emotional and behavioral disorders!
