Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This book exhibits several topics of interest, all of which are linked to a hard-core process of synthesis and the modification of a number of components of biodiesel. In this sense, the related themes can be approached from scientific, technological and industrial viewpoints. The main topics of interest are listed as follows: innovative steps or process synthesis with high efficiency; new or multi-catalyst uses for biodiesel synthesis; advanced process of washing and purification; functional additives with effect under synthesis parameters; effects on the biodiesel properties; application of co-solvents in the synthesis; physicochemical methods for changing composition; additives for the enhancement of physical and/or chemical properties of biodiesel, as well as investigation into molecular interactions; measurement and modeling of excess phenomena from the presence of additives and other compounds.
Summary of interest:
- Innovative steps or process of synthesis with high efficiency—in this sense, the design of new reactors and effect of macroscopic parameters under synthesis performance.
- New or multi-catalyst uses for biodiesel synthesis, such as heterogeneous catalysis based on the nanoheterostructures and/or heterostructures, as well as mixtures of two or more catalysts.
- Advanced process of washing and purification of aqueous and non-aqueous compounds.
- Functional additives with effects on physical and chemical parameters of biodiesel, such as synthesized, antifreeze, antioxidant, anti-knock, anticorrosive, water absorbers, cloud point, pour point, soot emission and others.
- Effects of organic additive-type compounds–linear chain polar or cyclic chain polar—on biodiesel properties, such as rheological properties, thermal conductivity, thermal stability and another.
- Application of one or more co-solvents in synthesis—of particular interest is the modeling of the mechanisms of actuating.
- Physicochemical methods for changing composition, where one or more components are added or removed of composition—in this sense development of biokerosene and another should be considered.
- Liquid or solid additives to provide enhancement of the identification of origin, bath, fabricant markers, composition markers physical and/or chemical properties of biodiesel, color, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
