Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue entitled “Application of New Methods for the Determination of Contaminants in Food and Environmental Quality and Safety” aims to provide a scientific overview of the latest trends in the fields of quality and safety applied to both food and environmental samples. Therefore, in this Special Issue, we would like to collect papers and critical reviews describing the forefront of research dealing with contaminants, with special attention to contaminants of emerging concern that nowadays are widespread in the environment (air, water, sediments, biota, etc.) and, consequently, also in food. Moreover, food could be affected by other natural exogenous contaminants, such as mycotoxins. Research papers and review articles that describe innovative methods in the field of food and environmental quality and safety fall under the scope of this Special Issue. Topics of interest include, just to mention a few examples, new sample preparation strategies for established or emerging analytes; new analytical methods for rapid screening; methods based on metabolomics, metaproteomics, or other omic techniques for qualitative and quantitative analysis; and targeted analysis for trace-level determination and quantitation.

The final aim of this Special Issue is to provide the scientists working in food and environmental quality and safety fields with an up-to-date overall view of novel available methods. In this way, we hope to encourage further developments and ideas to meet the urgent requests from both citizens and public authorities to eat safe and healthy food in a clean environment.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
