Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The aim of this Special Issue is to explore how advanced digital systems are shaping innovation, enabling emerging technologies, and informing strategic approaches across diverse sectors. As digitalization continues to disrupt traditional models of value creation and decision-making, this Special Issue seeks to bring together cutting-edge research that highlights the role of digital systems not only as technological tools, but also as enablers of innovation and strategic development. This Special Issue invites interdisciplinary contributions that examine both theoretical and practical dimensions of how digital technologies—such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital twins, cloud/edge computing, and blockchain—are being applied in innovative ways to address complex challenges and support long-term strategic goals.
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, theoretical analyses, case studies, and reviews that address the design, implementation, and strategic use of advanced digital systems in applied contexts. We are particularly interested in contributions that bridge the gap between technology development and strategic innovation practices, demonstrating how digital tools can support organizational transformation, innovation management, and competitive advantage.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Applications of advanced digital systems in industry, services, and public sectors;
- Digital transformation and strategy alignment;
- Innovation processes supported by digital technologies;
- Integration of emerging technologies (AI, IoT, blockchain, etc.) in strategic contexts;
- Strategic foresight, roadmapping, and digital innovation planning;
- Digital platforms and ecosystems for innovation and collaboration;
- Data-driven innovation and strategic decision-making;
- Organizational and societal impacts of digital systems;
- Case studies on successful digital innovation strategies;
- Challenges and best practices in aligning technology with strategic goals.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
