Artificial Intelligence and Data-Driven Approaches for Cultural Heritage

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is launched in collaboration with the Florence HeriTech 2026 International Conference, https://www.florenceheritech.com/, a unique forum dedicated to the intersection of cultural heritage and technological innovation.

In recent years, the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced data analytics has become increasingly crucial for the study, preservation, and valorization of cultural heritage. From the analysis of artworks, manuscripts, and archaeological finds, to the monitoring of architectural sites and museum collections, AI-driven approaches are opening unprecedented possibilities.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collect high-quality contributions, presenting novel methodologies, algorithms, and applications in the field of cultural heritage. While particular attention is given to artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches, we also welcome studies that explore complementary computational techniques, imaging methods, and interdisciplinary strategies to enhance our understanding and protection of cultural heritage.

Further, we invite authors to submit original research articles, reviews, and case studies that address the challenges and opportunities of applying advanced algorithms to this fascinating domain.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Elena Amodei, Director of the Salone dell’Arte e del Restauro di Firenze and co-founder of the Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro, for her invaluable support and contributions to the development of this publication. Her long-standing commitment to cultural heritage preservation and her continuous efforts to foster dialogue between art, science, and innovation have been a source of great inspiration for this work.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Algorithms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
