2015	The inaugural issue was released. Journal of Fungi was published as a quarterly journal.
2018	JoF announced the first edition of the Travel award. JoF was indexed in PubMed—National Library of Medicine (NLM), starting with Volume 4 (Issue 1). JoF was indexed in Scopus (Elsevier), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1). JoF was indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), starting with Volume 4 (Issue 4).
2019	JoF announced the second edition of the Travel award. JoF was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), starting with Volume 5 (Issue 3). JoF became an affiliated journal of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM).
2020	JoF announced the third edition of the Travel awards. JoF received its first Impact Factor (4.621). JoF became an affiliated journal of the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas. JoF published its 500th paper.
2021	JoF adopted a monthly publication schedule. JoF established the following sections: Fungal Pathogenesis and Disease Control; Fungal Evolution, Biodiversity and Systematics; Environmental and Ecological Interactions of Fungi; Fungal Cell Biology, Metabolism and Physiology; Fungal Genomics, Genetics and Molecular Biology; Fungi in Agriculture and Biotechnology. JoF published its 1,000th paper. JoF became an affiliated journal of the Spanish Phytopathological Society. JoF announced the first edition of the Young Investigator award. JoF announced the first edition of the High-Impact Paper Award.
2022	JoF announced the first edition of the Early-Career Women Award.
2024	The European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM) is no longer affiliated to JoF.
2025	The year 2025 marks the 10th Anniversary of JoF.
