International Day of Persons with Disabilities—“Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress”, 3 December 2025

2 December 2025

International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated annually on 3 December 2025, at uplifting persons with disabilities of every kind, and at every level of society and development. This year's theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress” reaffirms the commitment to build a more just, equitable and sustainable world. It highlights that meaningful progress in social development depends on the full inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities, while also acknowledging the intersectionality inherent in disability-related struggles and the diverse barriers different persons with disabilities may face.

To contribute to this ongoing discussion, MDPI journals offer platforms for advancing research that would help those in need through a wide spectrum of discussion topics, branched mainly into, but not limited to, the two subjects of sociological inquiry, as well as healthcare and treatment. Through our Special Issues, research articles, and a webinar, these journals explore complex topics of intersectionality and social progress where persons with disabilities are concerned.

MDPI journals’ aim with this year’s commemoration would be to facilitate dialogue to help persons with disabilities, encouraging the exchange of ideas that would bring attention to this group of people who need the extra care and attention, with a particular focus in the intersectionality of their issues in the present world.

Invited speakers:

Prof. Dr. Reinie Cordier
Curtin University, Perth, Australia

Prof. Dr. Trudo Lemmens
University of Toronto, Canada
