Cover Story: Understanding tire behavior on uneven road surfaces presents a challenge for vehicle dynamics engineers. The 2D, 5-DOF SWIFT-based rigid ring tire model effectively incorporates a tandem cam-enveloping algorithm to filter short-wavelength road obstacles while also capturing the dynamics of the tire belt. However, determining optimal cam and rigid ring parameters to balance accuracy and runtime performance is crucial. This DOE approach identifies key control parameters of the quasi-static enveloping and dynamic rigid ring models. The DOE results guide tire parameter optimization for high test-to-simulation correlation and improved computational efficiency. The study confirms robust predictions against noise factors, including variations in tires and road conditions. View this paper
