Cover Story: Growing commercial interest in civil supersonic travel demands a fast, reliable method for estimating sonic boom noise to support environmental assessments, urban planning decisions, and aviation management strategies. Inspired by the AEDT workflow, we introduce a surrogate modeling framework that transforms a small set of near-field CFD signatures into ground level N-waves and perception metrics within seconds. Whitham’s F-functions provide aircraft shape factors, Carlson’s model propagates waves through a standard atmosphere, and empirical correlations reconstruct rise time. Case studies of a Milan–New York transatlantic flight and a representative supersonic flight over Italy demonstrate continental scale footprint mapping and exposure statistics. View this paper
