Cover Story: Over the past decade, researchers have studied asphalt paving materials for noise reduction. This study examines sound absorption in rubber-modified asphalt mixtures, with an emphasis on shredded granulated rubber (CR) from end-of-life tires. By analyzing the acoustic coefficient and Gaussian fit parameters in five types of asphalt mixtures, including 0%, 0.75% and 1.50% CR obtained by the dry process, it was found that CR had a negligible influence on sound absorption at temperatures ranging from 10°C to 60°C, particularly in mixtures with high void content. Void content has a high correlation with sound absorption, which could help anticipate future sound-absorbing pavements. View this paper
