Cover Story: When operating fast-ramped superconducting magnets, power losses are induced in the superconducting coils and metallic elements. These losses arise from multiple mechanisms: hysteresis in superconducting filaments, coupling currents between conductors, and eddy currents in metallic structures. Accurately measuring AC losses is crucial for cooling system design, particularly in conduction-cooled magnets, where cryogenic efficiency directly impacts operational costs. We present the design of a novel AC loss measurement instrument developed for ramped superconducting magnets, supported by extensive Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis of power measurements.
