Cover Story: In the oscillatory regime, inverse methods are required to unveil the time course of the synaptic conductance gsyn(t). We propose a three-step strategy: (1) fit data of a measurable quantity (e.g., the membrane potential v(t)) to a reference model, (2) approximate the period–conductance relationship (T–g curve) associated to the model, and (3) for each interspike time period, estimate gsyn from the T–g curve. In this paper, we consider a nonlinear fractional differential equation. This equation takes the form of the Bernoulli differential equation, where we use the Caputo fractional derivative of non-integer order instead of the first-order derivative. Th...

In the paper, we consider a multi-server retrial queueing system with setup time which is motivated by applications in power-saving data centers with the ON-OFF policy, where an idle server is immediately turned off and an off server is set up upon a...

Let C⊆T be subcategories of an abelian category A. Under some certain conditions, we show that the C-finitistic and T-finitistic global dimensions of A are identical. Some applications are given; in particular, some known results are obtained as...

The Whittle index for restless bandits (two-action semi-Markov decision processes) provides an intuitively appealing optimal policy for controlling a single generic project that can be active (engaged) or passive (rested) at each decision epoch, and...

The addition of gamification to the classroom as a methodological tool means that the teacher’s opinion about this has become an inflection point that can affect its use or not in the classroom. In this sense, the main objective of the present...

In this study, a third-order linear integro-differential equation with a small parameter at two higher derivatives was considered. An asymptotic expansion of the solution to the boundary value problem for the considered equation is constructed by con...
