Cover Story: In the past decade, an indisputable consolidation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been produced based on mature technology ready to be applied in our daily lives. This technical consolidation of the field of UAVs—known colloquially as drones—provokes continuous research in design, modelling, control, navigation, guidance, etc., with the aim of manufacturing new aircraft with better features such as optimized take-off and vertical landing, longer flight times, ability to avoid obstacles in urban environments, accomplishment of complete missions automatically, or integration into non-segregated airspace. The collection of papers presented in this Special Issue gives a sample of the new lines of research that attempt to respond to future UAV needs. View Paper here.
