Cover Story: Peptide-based therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) face challenges related to selectivity and stability. In the following study, we present an innovative approach to overcome these limitations by loading a cardio-specific mimetic peptide (MP) onto calcium phosphate nanoparticles (CaP NPs) using two wet precipitation methods, one of which involves the use of sodium polyacrylate as a templating agent. The process achieved precise control over nanoparticle properties, including crystallinity, size, surface charge, and morphology. In vitro tests on cardiac cells demonstrated the biocompatibility of such NPs and their ability to restore intracellular calcium flux under stressed conditions. These findings highlight CaP NPs as a promising platform for advancing peptide-based CVD treatments. View this paper
