Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors present an exciting review of Light-controlled Microbots in Biomedical Applications.

Although I am not an expert in the field, I very much appreciated the method with which the information was reported and their discussion.

My only suggestion concerns the concluding section, which is a little narrow. The authors could / should be more unbalanced on the direction this technology is taking, what is still missing, or even reporting pros and cons among the various proposed technologies.

Reviewer 2 Report

Congratulations on the review article.

However, I consider that it would be appropriate to describe in the introduction the period of the bibliographic search that was carried out. It would also be convenient to cite specific success stories where the usefulness of this methodology could be demonstrated to highlight the importance of this type of applied research.

Reviewer 3 Report

Having analyzed a large amount of literature, the authors managed to fully reveal the possibilities and disadvantages of using microbots in various fields. However, there are some remarks that do not reduce the value of this work:

1. Introduction.

1.1. In the introduction, you can give a more detailed definition of what microbots are.

1.2. There are some similarities in the presentation of the material with the article by Bunea, A.-I.; Engay, E. L.; Chouliara, M.; Bañas, A.R.; Gluckstad, J. Rational design of light-controlled microrobots. In Proceedings of the Volume 10804, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies for Micro- and Nanosystems in Security and Defense, Berlin, Germany, 8 October 2018. However, she is not cited.

2. Table 1 page 10 presents comparisons of various control modalities of microbots (Optical, Magnetic, Chemical, Biological). Why is there no comparison with the microbots' light control mechanism?

3. Clause 4.2.3. page 18 (line 487) there is no indication of the numbering of the table in which the data is presented.
