Cover Story: This study explores Japan's distinct business practices and their impact on economic performance. It examines the relationship between specific features of Japanese corporate governance and the nation's lackluster economic performance. Additionally, it analyzes the factors influencing corporate governance reforms in Japan and their effects on overall corporate performance. Notable governance failures in Japanese firms are discussed to illustrate the evolution of governance practices over the past two decades.
