Cover Story: Understanding the fate of arctic and subarctic archaeological sites in the context of climate change is paramount. Despite their vulnerability, the degradation of northern archaeological sites remains inadequately documented. Our research on Oakes Bay 1, Dog Island, Labrador, employs an innovative approach in northern geoarchaeology, utilizing non-invasive geophysical methods to map permafrost distribution, offering crucial insights into its characteristics and spatial variability. Our findings highlight the susceptibility of the permafrost at Oakes Bay 1 to conduction and advection mechanisms, emphasizing the necessity for conservation efforts in similar sites. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of climate change's repercussions on northern regions’ archaeological heritage. View this paper
