Cover Story: The complex and locally variable mosaic of sedimentary units seen on modern passive margins mitigates the significant exchange of seawater and groundwater offshore. Discharge of offshore groundwater to the ocean can transmit contaminants and nutrients that may contribute as much water as river discharge. This study examines sediment deposits 2–20 km off the Isle of Palms, South Carolina, using an integrated geophysical and sedimentological approach that included 13 sediment vibracores collected at intersections of high-resolution seismic profiles. The numerous small paleochannels found in this area were most likely former estuarine channels comprising a drowned marsh environment that confines groundwater flow. Pulses of groundwater discharge have been detected just beyond the paleochannels. This suggests that mapping paleochannel systems is important for predicting groundwater flow. View this paper

Understanding the process of earthquake preparation is of utmost importance in mitigating the potential damage caused by seismic events. That is why the study of seismic precursors is fundamental. However, the community studying non-seismic precursor...

In the Solomon Islands, arc magmas are erupting on the subducting Australia Plate. These island (Simbo) and submarine arc volcanoes (Kana Keoki, Coleman and Pavuvu) are about to be recycled by rapid subduction. We identify eight of their former equiv...
