Cover Story: Ferrocene derivatives and especially those incorporating the amide linkage are of interest across a wide range of scientific areas including bioorganometallic chemistry, molecular recognition and structural sciences. As such, five ferrocenylcarboxamide crystal structures (four of which contain fluorinated aromatic rings), show a diverse range of intermolecular interactions that influence molecular aggregation. Competition is noted between various intermolecular interactions with increasing aromatic fluorine content. This is particularly notable in the N-(ferrocenylmethyl)pentafluorobenzenecarboxamide structure where impressive cooperative amide–amide interactions and 1D columnar (Fc⋯C6F5R⋯)n stacking dominate in the crystal structure.
