Cover Story: The management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout supply chains is challenging, and effective methods are crucial for successfully achieving sustainability in supply chains. This study investigates the problem of transshipment in cold supply chains, in which a possible increase in GHG emissions is a big concern. A sustainable transshipment model is presented, considering GHG emissions from inventory storage and transshipping trucks. The model incorporates the laden status and cargo weights of trucks for accurate emission assessment. Numerical simulations reveal the significant impact of operation decisions and parameters on GHG emissions in transshipment. The models and tools proposed in the study can help assess sustainable alternatives and optimize decision making for green transshipment in cold supply chains. View this paper
