Cover Story: Benthic life plays a crucial role in deep-sea ecosystems but is increasingly threatened by changing environmental conditions. To effectively implement conservation measures, understanding the distribution and composition of benthic fauna as well as the environmental factors influencing these patterns is essential. However, current research in this field is limited, largely focusing on small-scale geographic patterns or specific taxa. To address this gap, we investigated the abundance and composition of benthic mega- and macrofauna spanning the entire Atlantic Ocean. Using data from epibenthic sledges, our analysis encompassed both phylum and multitaxon levels, with the aim of providing valuable insights into the environmental drivers shaping deep-sea benthic communities. View this paper
