Three-dimensional trench electrode silicon detectors play an important role in particle physics research, nuclear radiation detection, and other fields. A novel polysilicon-fill-strengthened etch-through 3D trench electrode detector is proposed to address the shortcomings of traditional 3D trench electrode silicon detectors; for example, the distribution of non-uniform electric fields, asymmetric electric potential, and dead zone. The physical properties of the detector have been extensively and systematically studied. This study simulated the electric field, potential, electron concentration distribution, complete depletion voltage, leakage current, capacitance, transient current induced by incident particles, and weighting field distribution of the detector. It also systematically studied and analyzed the electrical characteristics of the detector. Compared to traditional 3D trench electrode silicon detectors, this new detector adopts a manufacturing process of double-side etching technology and double-side filling technology, which results in a more sensitive detector volume and higher electric field uniformity. In addition, the size of the detector unit is 120 µm × 120 µm × 340 µm; the structure has a small fully depleted voltage, reaching a fully depleted state at around 1.4 V, with a saturation leakage current of approximately 4.8×1010A, and a geometric capacitance of about 99 fF. To address freshwater scarcity and the underutilization of low-saline water in the North China Plain, a field study was conducted to evaluate the effects of alternating sprinkler irrigation using saline and fresh water on soil water–salt dynamics and corn growth. Two salinity levels (3 and 5 g·L−1, representing S1 and S2, respectively) and three irrigation strategies—saline–fresh–saline–fresh (F1), saline–fresh (F2), and mixed saline–fresh (F3)—were tested, resulting in six treatments: S1F1, S1F2, S1F3, S2F1, S2F2, and S2F3. S1F1 significantly improved soil water retention at a 30–50 cm depth and reduced surface electrical conductivity (EC) and Na+ concentration (p < 0.05). S1F1 also promoted more uniform Mg2+ distribution and limited Ca2+ loss. Under high salinity (5 g·L−1), surface salt accumulation and ion concentration (Na+, Mg2+, and Ca2+) increased, particularly in S2F3. Corn growth under alternating irrigation (F1/F2) outperformed the mixed mode (F3), with S1F1 achieving the highest plant height, leaf area, grain number, and 100-grain weight. The S1F1 yield surpassed others by 0.4–3.0% and maintained a better ion balance. These results suggest that alternating irrigation with low-salinity water (S1F1) effectively regulates root-zone salinity and improves crop productivity, offering a practical strategy for the sustainable use of low-saline water resources. This research investigates resonator width optimization for simultaneously enhancing electrical performance and mechanical reliability in wideband RF MEMS filters through systematic evaluation of three configurations: 0% (L1), 60% (L2), and 100% (L3) matching ratios between cap and bottom wafers using Au-Au thermocompression bonding. The study demonstrates that resonator width alignment significantly influences both electromagnetic field coupling and bonding interface integrity. The L3 configuration with complete width matching achieved optimal RF performance, demonstrating 3.34 dB insertion loss across 4.5 GHz bandwidth (25% fractional bandwidth), outperforming L2 (3.56 dB) and L1 (3.10 dB), while providing enhanced electromagnetic wave coupling and minimized contact resistance. Mechanical reliability testing revealed superior bonding strength for the L3 configuration, withstanding up to 7.14 Kgf in shear pull tests, significantly exceeding L1 (4.22 Kgf) and L2 (2.24 Kgf). SEM analysis confirmed uniform bonding interfaces with minimal void formation (~180 nm), while Q-factor measurements showed L3 achieved optimal loaded Q-factor (QL = 3.31) suitable for wideband operation. Comprehensive environmental testing, including thermal cycling (−50 °C to +145 °C) and humidity exposure per MIL-STD-810E standards, validated long-term stability across all configurations. This investigation establishes that complete resonator width matching between cap and bottom wafers optimizes both electromagnetic performance and mechanical bonding reliability, providing a validated framework for developing high-performance, reliable RF MEMS devices for next-generation communication, radar, and sensing applications. The behavior of brine solution in the porous media of the strata is of great significance for geological environment regulation. In this study, a molecular dynamics model with silicon dioxide walls was constructed to reveal the regulatory mechanism of the natural potential of the electric field on cluster aggregation. It was found that the critical electric field intensity was 7 V/m. When the electric field intensity was lower than this value, the aggregation rate was only increased by 0.73 times due to thermal motion; when it was higher than this value, the rate increased sharply by 3.2 times due to the dominant effect of electric field force. The microscopic structure analysis indicated that the strong electric field induced the transformation of clusters from fractal structure into an amorphous structure (the index of the order degree increased by 58%). The directional regulation experiments confirmed that the axial electric field led to anisotropic growth (the index of uniformity increased by 0.58 ± 0.04), and the rotational electric field could achieve a three-dimensional uniform distribution (the index of uniformity increased by 42%). This study provides theoretical support for the regulation of brine behavior and the optimization of geological energy storage. Full article

Lead ferrite (Pb2Fe2O5) is a promising multiferroic material that exhibits both ferroelectric and magnetic properties at room temperature. This study investigates how substituting niobium and adjusting the synthesis temperature affect the structural, morphological, and ferroelectric properties of lead ferrite thin films deposited via reactive magnetron sputtering. Niobium-substituted PFO films (Pb2Fe2(1−x)Nb2xO5), where x corresponds to Nb2O5 contents of 3 wt.%, 5 wt.% and 10 wt.%, were prepared for this study, and denoted as PFONb3, PFONb5 and PFONb10, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of Nb-substituted PFO phases, while polarization–electric field measurements demonstrated an increase in remnant polarization (Pr), with higher Nb content reaching a maximum Pr of 65 µC/cm2 at 10 wt.% Nb and a substrate temperature of 500 °C. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy revealed a uniform distribution of elements and a well-defined surface structure. These results highlight the need to fine tune synthesis parameters, such as temperature and substitution concentrations, to achieve optimal ferroelectric characteristics. Full article

This study presents a comprehensive mathematical model of a semiconductor structure based on vanadium dioxide (VO2), specifically in its conductive phase. The model was developed using the finite element method (FEM), enabling detailed simulation of the formation of a conductive channel under the influence of low-frequency alternating voltage (50 Hz). The VO2 structure under investigation exhibits pronounced electric field concentration at the surface, where the field strength reaches approximately 5 × 104 V/m, while maintaining a more uniform distribution of around 2 × 104 V/m within the bulk of the material. The simulation results were validated experimentally using a test circuit. Minor deviations—no greater than 8%—were observed between the simulated and measured current values, attributed to magnetic core saturation and modeling assumptions. A distinctive feature of the model is its ability to incorporate the nonlinear dependencies of VO2’s electrical properties on frequency. Analytical expressions were derived for the magnetic permeability and resistivity of VO2, demonstrating excellent agreement with experimental data. The coefficients of determination (R2) for the frequency dependence of magnetic permeability and resistance were found to be 0.9976 and 0.9999, respectively. The current version of the model focuses exclusively on the conductive phase and does not include the thermally induced metal–insulator phase transition characteristic of VO2. The study confirms that VO2-based structures exhibit high responsiveness and nonlinear switching behavior, making them suitable for applications in electronic surge protection, current limiting, and switching elements. The developed model provides a reliable and physically grounded tool for the design and optimization components based on VO2 in power electronics and protective circuitry. Full article

Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), an extraordinary gas insulation medium, must be replaced by environmentally friendly gas in electric equipment because of its high global warming potential (GWP). In this research work, the DC breakdown properties of R404a gas and its mixtures with N2 and CO2 are studied under a sphere–sphere electrode configuration and uniform field conditions. The GWP of R404a is 16% of SF6 and its liquefaction temperature is also in the suitable range for practical applications. Nitrogen and carbon dioxide are mixed with R404a to reduce its boiling point and GWP. Other important parameters such as the self-recoverability, liquefaction temperature, GWP, and synergistic effect of R404a/CO2 and R404a/N2 were also studied to complement the insulation performance and the results are comparable to other gas mixtures. As a result, it was found that both the mixtures containing 80% R404a and 20% N2 or 20% CO2 possess a breakdown strength of 0.83 times that of SF6. Mixtures containing an 80% concentration of R404a possess a GWP equal to only 15% of SF6. These properties make gaseous mixtures containing 80% R404a and 20% N2 or CO2 a suitable alternative to SF6 in medium-voltage gas-insulated equipment. Full article

Some of the popular and successful atmospheric pressure fuel/air plasma-assisted combustion methods use repetitive ns pulsed discharges and dielectric-barrier discharges. The transient phase in such discharges is dominated by transport under strong space charge from ionization fronts, which is best characterized by the streamer model. The role of the nonthermal plasma in such discharges is to produce radicals, which accelerates the chemical conversion reaction leading to temperature rise and ignition. Therefore, the characterization of the streamer and its energy partitioning is essential to develop a predictive model. We examine the important characteristics of streamers that influence combustion and develop some macroscopic parameters. Our results show that the radicals’ production efficiency at an applied field is nearly independent of time and the radical density generated depends only on the electrical energy density coupled to the plasma. We compare the results of the streamer model to the zero-dimensional uniform field Townsend-like discharge, and our results show a significant difference. The results concerning the influence of energy density and repetition rate on the ignition of a hydrogen/air fuel mixture are presented. Full article

The development of solar technologies and the widespread adoption of photovoltaic (PV) panels have significantly transformed the global energy landscape. PV panels have evolved from niche applications to become a primary source of electricity generation, driven by their environmental benefits and declining costs. However, the performance and operational lifespan of PV systems are often compromised by various faults, which can lead to efficiency losses and increased maintenance costs. Consequently, effective and timely fault detection methods have become a critical focus of current research in the field. This work proposes an innovative video-based method for the dimensional evaluation and detection of malfunctions in solar panels, utilizing processing techniques applied to aerial images captured by unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The method is based on a novel mini-pattern matching algorithm designed to identify specific defect features despite challenging environmental conditions such as strong gradients of non-uniform lighting, partial shading effects, or the presence of accidental deposits that obscure panel surfaces. The proposed approach aims to enhance the accuracy and reliability of fault detection, enabling more efficient monitoring and maintenance of PV installations. Full article

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoelectric ceramics are widely used functional materials due to their strong and stable piezoelectric properties. A leveling method based on lead zirconate titanate piezoelectric ceramics is proposed for the high level of accuracy required in microelectromechanical fields such as aerospace, industrial robotics, biomedical, and photolithography. A leveling mechanism consisting of core components such as piezoelectric ceramic actuators and sensors is designed. The closed-loop leveling of the working platform is performed using the electromechanical coupling effect of the PZT piezoelectric material. Combined with the theory of the dielectric inverse piezoelectric effect in electric fields, a simulation is used to analyze the four force and deformation cases generated by the drive legs when the load is attached at different positions of the working platform, and the leveling is realized by applying the drive voltage to generate micro-motion displacement. Simulation and calculation results show that the leveling method can reduce the tilt angle of the working platform by 60% when the driving voltage is in the range of 10~150 V. The feasibility of the leveling method and the uniformity of the theoretical calculation and simulation are verified. Full article

To solve the problems of carbon fiber (CF) electrodes, including poor frequency response and large potential drift, CFs were subjected to a roughening pretreatment process combining thermal oxidation and electrochemical anodic oxidation and then modified with Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) using electroplating to prepare a CF electric field sensor. The surface morphology of the as-prepared AgNP-CF electric field sensor was characterized via optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, XPS, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and its impedance, polarization drift, self-noise, and temperature drift values were determined. Results show that the surface modification of the AgNP-CF electric field sensor is uniform, and its specific surface area is considerably increased. The electrode potential drift, characteristic impedance, self-noise, and temperature drift are 52.1 µV/24 h, 3.6 Ω, 2.993 nV/√Hz@1 Hz, and less than 70 µV/°C, respectively. Additionally, the AgNP-CF electric field sensor demonstrates low polarization and high stability. In field and simulated ocean tests, the AgNP-CF electrode exhibits excellent performance in the field and underwater environments, which renders it promising for the measurement of the ocean and geoelectric fields owing to its advantages, such as low noise and high stability. Cubic phase SnSe-based materials have great potential in the field of thermoelectricity due to their reduced carrier scattering, increased band degeneracy, and ultra-low lattice thermal conductivity. Nevertheless, systematic studies on the influence of element doping on the thermoelectric properties of cubic SnSe-based materials are still relatively scarce. To enrich the research in this field, this work investigates the effects of Ge doping on the phase composition, electrical and thermal transport properties of cubic Sn0.50Ag0.25Bi0.25Se0.50Te0.50 thermoelectric materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed that the Ge-doped samples exhibited a single cubic phase structure, while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) revealed a uniform distribution of elements within the samples. The results indicate that increasing the Ge doping content substantially enhances their electrical conductivity, albeit at the expense of elevated thermal conductivity. By optimizing the content of Ge-doping, the thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) reached 0.74 at 750 K. Notably, while moderate Ge doping enhances electrical transport properties, excessive doping leads to a significant rise in thermal conductivity, ultimately constraining further thermoelectric performance gains. Understanding strain behavior near grain boundaries is critical for controlling structural distortions and oxygen vacancy migration in perovskite oxides. However, conventional techniques often lack the spatial resolution needed to analyze phase and domain evolution at the nanoscale. In this paper, polarization-dependent second-harmonic generation (SHG) imaging is employed as a tool to probe local symmetry breaking and complex domain structures in the vicinity of a low-angle grain boundary of SrTiO3 (STO) bicrystals. We show that the anisotropic strain introduced by a tilted grain boundary produces strong local distortions, leading to the coexistence of tetragonal and rhombohedral domains. By analyzing SHG intensity and variations in the second-order nonlinear optical susceptibility, we map the distribution of strain fields and domain configurations near the boundary. In pristine samples, the grain boundary acts as a localized source of strain accumulation and symmetry breaking, while in samples subjected to intentional electrical stressing, the SHG response becomes broader and more uniform, suggesting strain relaxation. This work highlights SHG imaging as a powerful technique for visualizing grain-boundary-driven structural changes, with broad implications for the design of strain-engineered functional oxide devices. Electrospinning has evolved into a vital nanofiber production technique with broad applications across biomedical, environmental, and industrial sectors. Alternating current (AC) and pulsed voltage (PV) electrospinning offer transformative alternatives by utilizing time-varying electric fields to overcome the drawbacks of DC electrospinning by employing an oscillating electric field that facilitates balanced charge dynamics, improved jet stability, and collectorless operation, leading to enhanced fiber alignment and significantly higher production rates, with reports exceeding 20 g/h. Conversely, PV electrospinning applies intermittent high-voltage pulses, offering precise control over jet initiation and termination. This method enables the fabrication of ultrafine, bead-free, and structurally uniform fibers, making it particularly suitable for biomedical applications such as controlled drug delivery and tissue scaffolds. Both techniques support tunable fiber morphology, reduced diameter variability, and improved structural uniformity, contributing to the advancement of high-performance nanofiber materials. This review examines the underlying electrohydrodynamic mechanisms, charge transport behavior, equipment configurations, and performance metrics associated with AC and PV electrospinning. It further highlights key innovations, current limitations in scalability and standardization, and prospective research directions. Full article
