As the core equipment for efficient wastewater treatment, the internal structure of microporous aeration bioreactors directly determines the mass transfer efficiency and treatment performance. Based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology, this study explores the optimization mechanism of a Spherical Grid-Structured on the internal flow field of the reactor through a 3D numerical simulation system, aiming to improve the aeration efficiency and resource utilization. This study used a combination of experimental and numerical simulations to compare and analyze different configurations of the Spherical Grid-Structure. The simulation results show that the optimal equilibrium of the flow field inside the reactor is achieved when the diameter of the grid sphere is 2980 mm: the average flow velocity is increased by 22%, the uniformity of the pressure distribution is improved by 25%, and the peak turbulent kinetic energy is increased by 30%. Based on the Kalman vortex street theory, the periodic vortex induced by the grid structure refines the bubble size to 50–80 microns, improves the oxygen transfer efficiency by 20%, increases the spatial distribution uniformity of bubbles by 35%, and significantly reduces the dead zone volume from 28% to 16.8%, which is a decrease of 40%. This study reveals the quantitative relationship between the structural parameters of the grid and the flow field characteristics through a pure numerical simulation, which provides a theoretical basis and quantifiable optimization scheme for the structural design of the microporous aeration bioreactor, which is of great significance in promoting the development of low-energy and high-efficiency wastewater treatment technology. Accurate micro gas flow measurement is critical for medical ventilator calibration, environmental gas monitoring, and semiconductor manufacturing. Laminar flowmeters are widely employed in micro gas flow measurement applications owing to their inherent advantages of high linearity, the absence of moving components, and a broad measurement range. Nevertheless, due to the low measurement accuracy under micro gas flow caused by nonlinear errors and a relatively complex structure, traditional laminar flow measurement devices exhibit limitations in micro gas flow measurement scenarios. This study proposes a novel micro gas flow measurement method based on a single capillary laminar flow element, which simplifies the structure and enhances applicability in the field of micro gas flow. Through structural optimization with precise control of the capillary length–diameter ratios and theoretical error correction based on computational analysis, nonlinear errors were effectively reduced while improving the measurement accuracy in the field of micro gas flow. The proposed methodology was systematically validated through computational fluid dynamics simulations (ANSYS Fluent 2021 R1) and experimental investigations using a dedicated test platform. The experimental results show that the relative error of the measurement system within the full measurement range is less than ±0.6% (1–10 cm3/min; cm3/min means cubic centimeter per minute), and its accuracy is superior to 1% of reading (1% Rd) or 1.5% of reading (1.5% Rd) of conventional laminar flowmeters. The fitting curve of the flow rate versus the pressure difference derived from the measurement results maintains an excellent linear correlation (R2 > 0.99), thus confirming that this method has practical application value in the field of micro gas flow measurement. Outdoor access, often referred to as pop holes, is widely used to improve the production and welfare of hens. Such cage-free environments present an opportunity for precision flock management via best environmental control practices. However, outdoor access disrupts the integrity of the indoor environment, including properly planned ventilation. Moreover, complaints exist that hens do not use the holes to access the outdoor environment due to the strong incoming airflow through the outdoor access, as they behave as uncontrolled air inlets in a negative pressure ventilation system. As the egg industry transitions to cage-free systems, there is an urgent need for validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models to optimize ventilation strategies that balance animal welfare, environmental control, and production efficiency. We developed and validated CFD models of a cage-free hen house with outdoor access by specifying real-world conditions, including two exhaust fans, sidewall ventilation inlets, wire-meshed pens, outdoor access, and plenum inlets. The simulations of four ventilation scenarios predict the measured air flow velocity with an error of less than 50% for three of the scenarios, and the simulations predict temperature with an error of less than 6% for all scenarios. Plenum-based systems outperformed sidewall systems by up to 136.3 air changes per hour, while positive pressure ventilation effectively mitigated disruptions to outdoor access. We expect that knowledge of improved ventilation strategy will help the egg industry improve the welfare of hens cost-effectively. Full article

Aiming at the problems of the high multiple- and missed-seeding index and low operation efficiency of current mechanical potato seed-meters in minituber sowing, this study designed an air-suction roller-type minituber seed-metering device for minitubers (mass between 2 and 4 g) in accordance with the agronomic standards for potato cultivation in the single-cropping area of northern China. An account of the device’s structure and operational principle was made, its working process was theoretically analysed, and the three main factors affecting the airflow suction were determined: the seed roller speed, the suction seeding hole diameter, and the air inlet negative pressure. This study adopted the fluid dynamics simulation method and determined that the ideal location of the air inlet was 30° for horizontal inclination and 60° for vertical inclination. Then, based on the CFD-DEM fluid-structure coupling simulation method, the impact of a range of factors on the functionality of the seed-metering device under different conditions was studied and verification tests were carried out. Design-Expert was used to analyse test results. The results showed that when the pressure at the air inlet was −7000 Pa, the speed of the seeding roller was 40.2 r·min−1, the suction seeding hole diameter was 10.37 mm, and the performance was optimal: the qualified index was 92.95%, the multiple-seeding index was 4.16%, and the missed-seeding index was 2.89%. The research results show that the seed-metering device developed under this scheme exhibited satisfactory seeding performance during operation and was able to meet the demands of minituber sowing. Transpiration cooling that utilizes the phase change of a liquid coolant is recognized as an effective thermal protection technique for extreme environments. However, the introduction of phase change within the porous structure brings about challenges, such as vapor blockage, pressure fluctuations, and temperature inversion, which critically influence system reliability. This study conducts numerical analyses of coupled processes of heat transfer, flow, and phase change in transpiration cooling using a Two-Phase Mixture Model. The simulation incorporates a Local Thermal Non-Equilibrium approach to capture the distinct temperature fields of the solid and fluid phases, enabling accurate prediction of the thermal response within two-phase and single-phase regions. The results reveal that under low heat flux, dominant capillary action suppresses dry-out and expands the two-phase region. Conversely, high heat flux causes vaporization to overwhelm the capillary supply, forming a superheated vapor layer and constricting the two-phase zone. The analysis also explains a paradoxical pressure drop, where an initial increase in flow rate reduces pressure loss by suppressing the high-viscosity vapor phase. Furthermore, a local temperature inversion, where the fluid becomes hotter than the solid matrix, is identified and attributed to vapor counterflow and its subsequent condensation. Full article

This paper presents a preliminary investigation into the aeroelastic behavior of a tailless flying wing equipped with a rotating wingtip. Based on the configuration of Innovative Control Effectors (ICE) aircraft, an aeroelastic model of the tailless flying wing with a rotating wingtip has been developed. Both numerical simulation and wind tunnel tests (WTTs) are employed to study the aeroelastic characteristics of this unique design. The numerical simulation involves the coupling of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and implicit dynamic approaches (IDAs). Using the CFD/IDA coupling method, aeroelastic response results are obtained under different flow dynamic pressures. The critical flutter dynamic pressure is identified by analyzing the trend of the damping coefficient, with a focus on its transition from negative to positive values. Additionally, the critical flutter velocity and flutter frequency are obtained from the WTT results. The critical flutter parameters, including dynamic pressure, velocity, and flutter frequency, are examined under different wingtip rotation frequencies and angles. These parameters are derived using both the CFD/IDA coupling method and WTT. The results indicate that the rotating wingtip plays a significant role in influencing the flutter behavior of aircraft with such a configuration. Research has shown that the rotation characteristics of the rotating wingtip are the primary factor affecting its aeroelastic behavior, and increasing both the rotation frequency and rotation angle can raise the flutter boundary and effectively suppress flutter onset. Comparative Analysis of Fully Floating and Semi-Floating Ring Bearings in High-Speed Turbocharger Rotordynamics

This study presents a detailed experimental comparison of the rotordynamic and thermal performance of automotive turbochargers supported by two distinct hydrodynamic bearing configurations: fully floating ring bearings (FFRBs) and semi-floating ring bearings (SFRBs). While both designs are widely used in commercial turbochargers, they exhibit significantly different dynamic behaviors due to differences in ring motion and fluid film interaction. A cold air-driven test rig was employed to assess vibration and temperature characteristics across a range of controlled lubricant conditions. The test matrix included oil supply pressures from 2 bar (g) to 4 bar (g) and temperatures between 30 °C and 70 °C. Rotor speeds reached up to 200 krpm (thousands of revolutions per minute), and data were collected using a high-speed data acquisition system, triaxial accelerometers, and infrared (IR) thermal imaging. Rotor vibration was characterized through waterfall and Bode plots, while jump speeds and thermal profiles were analyzed to evaluate the onset and severity of instability. The results demonstrate that the FFRB configuration is highly sensitive to oil supply parameters, exhibiting strong subsynchronous instabilities and hysteresis during acceleration–deceleration cycles. In contrast, the SFRB configuration consistently provided superior vibrational stability and reduced sensitivity to lubricant conditions. Changes in lubricant supply conditions induced a jump speed variation in floating ring bearing (FRB) turbochargers that was approximately 3.47 times larger than that experienced by semi-floating ring bearing (SFRB) turbochargers. Furthermore, IR images and oil outlet temperature data confirm that the FFRB system experiences greater heat generation and thermal gradients, consistent with higher energy dissipation through viscous shear. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of both bearing types under realistic high-speed conditions and highlights the advantages of the SFRB configuration in improving turbocharger reliability, thermal performance, and noise suppression. The findings support the application of SFRBs in high-performance automotive systems where mechanical stability and reduced frictional losses are critical. Full article

In order to improve the lubrication efficiency in the bearing cavity, this study establishes a simulation model of the fluid domain of the bearing cavity based on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method and systematically studies the flow characteristics of the lubricant and its lubrication mechanism in the high-speed rotary bearing. In the process of high-speed bearing operation, the lubricant is subject to the combined effect of centrifugal force and contact pressure, gradually spreads to both sides of the steel ball, and forms a stable oil film after injection from the nozzle. However, due to the influence of high pressure distribution in the contact area, the actual formation of the oil film coverage is relatively limited. In order to further optimize the lubrication effect, this study focuses on investigating the influence law of different injection speeds and rotational speeds on the bearing air curtain effect. The results of the study show that when the air curtain effect is enhanced, there will be significant shear interference on the trajectory of the lubricant, which is manifested in the phenomenon of “buckling” at the end of the lubricant, thus reducing the lubrication efficiency. To address this problem, this study innovatively proposes the air curtain obstruction coefficient K as a quantitative evaluation index, and through numerical simulation, it is found that the lubricant can effectively overcome the air curtain obstruction and achieve a better lubrication coverage when the value of K is reduced to below 0.4. Based on this finding, the study further confirmed that the lubrication efficiency of bearings can be significantly improved under different operating conditions by rationally regulating the injection rate. Multistage centrifugal pumps, owing to their high head characteristics, are commonly applied in domains like subsea resource exploitation and groundwater extraction. However, the wear of flow passage components caused by solid particles in the fluid severely threatens equipment lifespan and system safety. To investigate the influence of solid-liquid two-phase flow on pump performance and wear, this study conducted numerical simulations of the solid-liquid two-phase flow within multistage centrifugal pumps based on the Euler–Lagrange approach and the Tabakoff wear model. The simulation results showed good agreement with experimental data. Under the design operating condition, compared to the clear water condition, the efficiency under the solid-liquid two-phase flow condition decreased by 1.64%, and the head coefficient decreased by 0.13. As the flow rate increases, particle momentum increases, the particle Stokes number increases, inertial forces are enhanced, and the coupling effect with the fluid weakens, leading to an increased impact intensity on flow passage components. This results in a gradual increase in the wear area of the impeller front shroud, back shroud, pressure side, and the peripheral casing. Under the same flow rate condition, when particles enter the pump chamber of a subsequent stage from a preceding stage, the fluid, after being rectified by the return guide vane, exhibits a more uniform flow pattern and reduced turbulence intensity. The particle Stokes number in the subsequent stage is smaller than that in the preceding stage, weakening inertial effects and enhancing the coupling effect with the fluid. This leads to a reduced impact intensity on flow passage components, resulting in a smaller wear area of these components in the subsequent stage compared to the preceding stage. This research offers critical theoretical foundations and practical guidelines for developing wear-resistant multistage centrifugal pumps in solid-liquid two-phase flow applications, with direct implications for extending service life and optimizing hydraulic performance. Reliable prediction of tunnel thruster performance under reverse, or off-design, reverse operating direction (ROD) conditions, is crucial for modern vessels that require bidirectional thrust from a single unit—such as yachts and offshore support vessels. Despite the increasing demand for such a capability, there remains limited understanding of the unsteady hydrodynamic behavior and performance implications of ROD operation. This study addresses this gap through a scale-resolving computational fluid dynamics (CFD) investigation of a full-scale, fixed-pitch propeller with a diameter of 0.62, installed in a tunnel geometry representative of yacht-class side thrusters. Using advanced turbulence modeling, we compare the thruster’s performance under both the normal operating direction (NOD) and ROD. The results reveal notable differences: in ROD, the upstream separation zone was more compact and elongated, average thrust increases by approximately 3–4%, and torque and pressure fluctuations rise by 15–30%. These findings demonstrate that a single tunnel thruster can meet bidirectional manoeuvring requirements. However, the significantly elevated unsteady loads during ROD operation offer a plausible explanation for the increased noise and vibration frequently observed in practice. Full article

The Shenhu sea area is rich in unconsolidated hydrate reserves, but the formation mineral particles are small, the rock cementation is weak, and the coupling mechanism of hydrate phase change, fluid seepage, and formation deformation is complex, resulting in unclear productivity change law under depressurization exploitation. Therefore, a thermal–fluid–solid–chemical coupling model for natural gas hydrate depressurization exploitation in the Shenhu sea area was constructed to analyze the variation law of reservoir parameters and productivity. The results show that within 0–30 days, rapid near-well pressure drop (13.83→9.8 MPa, 36.37%) drives peak gas production (25,000 m3/d) via hydrate dissociation, with porosity (0.41→0.52) and permeability (75→100 mD) increasing. Within 30–60 days, slower pressure decline (9.8→8.6 MPa, 12.24%) and fines migration cause permeability fluctuations (120→90 mD), reducing gas production to 20,000 m3/d. Within 60–120 days, pressure stabilizes (~7.6 MPa) with residual hydrate saturation < 0.1, leading to stable low permeability (60 mD) and gas production (15,000 m3/d), with cumulative production reaching 2.2 × 106 m3. This study clarifies that productivity is governed by coupled “pressure-driven dissociation–heat limitation–fines migration” mechanisms, providing key insights for optimizing depressurization strategies (e.g., timed heat supplementation, anti-clogging measures) to enhance commercial viability of unconsolidated hydrate reservoirs. The presented research examines the performance characteristics of Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers through computational fluid dynamics (CFD), focusing on pressure drop calculations for single-phase flow within full channels of plates featuring dimpled corrugation. This work aims to bridge gaps in the literature, particularly regarding the underexplored behavior near the ports for the studied technology and establishing a framework for future conjugate heat transfer studies. A methodology for the domain generation was developed, integrating a preliminary forming simulation to reproduce the complex plate geometry. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses were conducted to evaluate the influence of different parameters and identify the optimal settings for obtaining reliable results. The findings indicate that the kε realizable turbulence model with enhanced wall treatment offers superior accuracy in predicting pressure drops, with errors within ±4.4%. Additionally, leveraging the information derived from CFD, a strategy to estimate contributions from different channel sections without a direct reliance on those simulations was developed, offering practical implications for plate design. The synergistic development of low-permeability reservoirs such as deep coalbed methane (CBM) and tight gas has emerged as a key technology to reduce development costs, enhance single-well productivity, and improve gas recovery. However, due to fundamental differences between coal seams and tight sandstones in their pore structure, permeability, water saturation, and pressure sensitivity, significant variations exist in their flow capacities and fluid production behaviors. To address the challenges of production allocation and main reservoir identification in the co-development of CBM and tight gas within deep gas-bearing basins, this study employs the transient multiphase flow simulation software OLGA to construct a representative dual-gas co-production well model. The regulatory mechanisms of the gas–liquid distribution, deliquification efficiency, and interlayer interference under two typical vertical stacking relationships—“coal over sand” and “sand over coal”—are systematically analyzed with respect to different tubing setting depths. A high-precision dynamic production allocation method is proposed, which couples the wellbore structure with real-time monitoring parameters. The results demonstrate that positioning the tubing near the bottom of both reservoirs significantly enhances the deliquification efficiency and bottomhole pressure differential, reduces the liquid holdup in the wellbore, and improves the synergistic productivity of the dual-reservoirs, achieving optimal drainage and production performance. Building upon this, a physically constrained model integrating real-time monitoring data—such as the gas and liquid production from tubing and casing, wellhead pressures, and other parameters—is established. Specifically, the model is built upon fundamental physical constraints, including mass conservation and the pressure equilibrium, to logically model the flow paths and phase distribution behaviors of the gas–liquid two-phase flow. This enables the accurate derivation of the respective contributions of each reservoir interval and dynamic production allocation without the need for downhole logging. Validation results show that the proposed method reliably reconstructs reservoir contribution rates under various operational conditions and wellbore configurations. Through a comparison of calculated and simulated results, the maximum relative error occurs during abrupt changes in the production capacity, approximately 6.37%, while for most time periods, the error remains within 1%, with an average error of 0.49% throughout the process. These results substantially improve the timeliness and accuracy of the reservoir identification. This study offers a novel approach for the co-optimization of complex multi-reservoir gas fields, enriching the theoretical framework of dual-gas co-production and providing technically adaptive solutions and engineering guidance for multilayer unconventional gas exploitation. Horizontal well fracturing is vital for low-permeability tight oil reservoirs, but multi-fracture effectiveness is hampered by stress shadowing and fluid-rock interactions, particuarly in optimizing fracture geometry and conductivity under different sequencing strategies. While previous studies have addressed aspects of pore pressure and stress effects, a comprehensive comparison of sequencing strategies using fully coupled models capturing the intricate seepage–stress–damage interactions remains limited. This study employs a novel 2D fully coupled XFEM model to quantitatively evaluate three fracturing approaches: simultaneous, sequential, and alternating. Numerical results demonstrate that sequential and alternating strategies alleviate stress interference, increasing cumulative fracture length by 20.6% and 26.1%, respectively, versus conventional simultaneous fracturing. Based on the research findings, fracture width reductions are 30.44% (simultaneous), 18.78% (sequential), and 7.21% (alternating). As fracture width directly governs conductivity—the critical parameter determining hydrocarbon flow efficiency—the alternating strategy’s superior width preservation (92.79% retention) enables optimal conductivity design. These findings provide critical insights for designing fracture networks with targeted dimensions and conductivity in tight reservoirs and offer a practical basis to optimize fracture sequencing design. The current study examines the influence of a varying gravity field and its interaction with density stratification. This represents a novel area in baroclinic flow analysis. The classical vortex and internal wave structures in stratified flows are shown to be significantly modified when gravity varies with height. Vortices may shift, stretch, or weaken depending on the direction and strength of gravity variation, and internal waves develop asymmetries or damping that are not present under constant gravity. We examine the influence of gravity variation on the flow of both homogeneous and density-stratified fluids in a channel with topography consisting of a Gaussian obstacle lying at the bottom of the channel. The flow is without inertia, induced by the translation of the top plate. Both the density and gravity are assumed to vary linearly with height, with the minimum density at the moving top plate. The narrow-gap approach is used to generate the flow field in terms of the pressure gradient along the top plate, which, in turn, is obtained in terms of the bottom topography and the three parameters of the problem, namely, the Froude number and the density and gravity gradients. The resulting stream function is a fifth-order polynomial in the vertical coordinate. In the absence of stratification, the flow is smooth, affected rather slightly by the variable topography, with an essentially linear drop in the pressure induced by the contraction. For a weak stratified fluid, the streamlines become distorted in the form of standing gravity waves. For a stronger stratification, separation occurs, and a pair of vortices generally appears on the two sides of the obstacle, the size of which depends strongly on the flow parameters. The influence of gravity stratification is closely coupled to that of density. We examine conditions where the coupling impacts the pressure and the velocity fields, particularly the onset of gravity waves and vortex flow. Only a mild density gradient is needed for flow separation to occur. The influence of the amplitude and width of the obstacle is also investigated. Full article
