Background: Emotional abuse is both prevalent and underrecognized particularly in culturally complex settings like India. Adolescents, being in a critical developmental phase, are especially vulnerable to the long-lasting psychological effects of emotional abuse. This qualitative literature review aims to synthesize findings from primary studies that explore the lived experiences of emotional abuse among Indian adolescents and identify emerging patterns across sociocultural contexts. Method: Electronic databases, including DOAJ, Google Scholar, ProQuest, JSTOR, Pubmed, PsycNet, and SCOPUS, were searched for peer-reviewed articles published in English up to March 2025. Inclusion criteria comprised qualitative or mixed-methods research focusing on emotional abuse among adolescents aged 12–20 in Indian contexts. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) was used for quality assessment. Results: Five major thematic domains were identified across the included studies: (1) Family as a primary site of emotional abuse; (2) Gendered experiences of abuse; (3) Cultural normalization and silence; (4) Psychological and emotional consequences; and (5) Coping and resilience among adolescents. These themes reflect shared experiences of emotional abuse shaped by cultural, familial, and gender-based expectations. Conclusions: This review highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and culturally sensitive interventions addressing emotional abuse in Indian adolescents. The findings suggest that parents, educators, and policymakers must recognize emotionally harmful behaviors and implement prevention-oriented strategies, particularly through non-violent communication and adolescent mental health support frameworks. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of psychological distress among medical students in Spain, a growing concern given the high prevalence rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout reported across multiple medical schools and universities. To assess the scope and key characteristics of this phenomenon, a thorough literature search was conducted in the PubMed, ProQuest, and Web of Science (WoS) databases. Studies published between 2010 and 2024 in peer-reviewed scientific journals, written in English or Spanish, and specifically focused on medical students enrolled in Spanish universities were considered for inclusion. A total of 14 studies were analysed. The findings indicate that psychological distress often emerges early in medical training and tends to intensify as students progress academically. Female medical students are consistently more affected, as most of the studies reviewed indicate that they exhibit higher levels of depressive symptoms, trait anxiety, and perceived stress. Some research also suggests greater levels of burnout among female students compared to their male peers. Key contributing factors include academic overload and dissatisfaction, sleep deprivation, and the use of maladaptive coping strategies. Although awareness of the issue is increasing, available evidence suggests that institutional responses remain limited, and that only a small number of universities have implemented structured mental health programmes. Overall, the results underscore the urgent need for institutional reforms in Spanish medical education to safeguard students’ mental wellbeing. Key priorities include revising curricula, implementing structured emotional support programmes, and ensuring accessible services—requiring coordinated, long-term commitment across academic, healthcare, and policy sectors. Future research should explore longitudinal trends and the effectiveness of targeted interventions. Full article

Prescriptive Maintenance (PsM) transforms industrial asset management by enabling autonomous decisions through simultaneous failure anticipation and optimal maintenance recommendations. Yet, despite increasing research interest, the conceptual clarity, technological maturity, and practical deployment of PsM remains fragmented. Here, we conduct a comprehensive and application-oriented Systematic Literature Review of studies published between 2013–2024. We identify key enablers—artificial intelligence and machine learning, horizontal and vertical integration, and deep reinforcement learning—that map the functional space of PsM across industrial sectors. The results from our multivariate meta-synthesis uncover three main thematic research clusters, ranging from decision-automation of technical (multi)component-level systems to strategic and organisational-support strategies. Notably, while predictive models are widely adopted, the translation of these capabilities to PsM remains limited. Primary reasons include semantic interoperability, real-time optimisation, and deployment scalability. As a response, a structured research agenda is proposed to emphasise hybrid architectures, context-aware prescription mechanisms, and alignment with Industry 5.0 principles of human-centricity, resilience, and sustainability. The review establishes a critical foundation for future advances in intelligent, explainable, and action-oriented maintenance systems. Full article

This review addresses the urgent need for alternative strategies to combat drug-resistant mycobacterial infections, including multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis, as well as non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) diseases. Traditional antibiotics are increasingly limited by resistance, toxicity, and poor efficacy, particularly in immunocompromised patients. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, covering publications primarily from 2000 to 2025. Only articles published in English were included to ensure consistency in data interpretation. Search terms included “mycobacteriophages,” “phage therapy,” “drug-resistant mycobacteria, “diagnostic phages,” and “phage engineering.” The review examines the therapeutic and diagnostic potential of mycobacteriophages—viruses that specifically infect mycobacteria—focusing on their molecular biology, engineering advances, delivery systems, and clinical applications. Evidence suggests that mycobacteriophages offer high specificity, potent bactericidal activity, and adaptability, positioning them as promising candidates for targeted therapy. Although significant obstacles remain—including immune interactions, limited host range, and regulatory challenges—rapid progress in synthetic biology and delivery platforms continues to expand their clinical potential. As research advances and clinical frameworks evolve, mycobacteriophages are poised to become a valuable asset in the fight against drug-resistant mycobacterial diseases, offering new precision-based solutions where conventional therapies fail. Sarcopenia is a progressive age-related musculoskeletal disorder characterized by loss of muscle mass, strength, and physical performance, contributing to functional decline and increased risk of disability. Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin D (Vit D) plays a pivotal role in skeletal muscle physiology beyond its classical functions in bone metabolism. This review aims to critically analyze the relationship between serum Vit D levels and sarcopenia in older adults, focusing on pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic criteria, clinical evidence, and preventive strategies. An integrative narrative review of observational studies, randomized controlled trials, and meta-analyses published in the last decade was conducted. The analysis incorporated international diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia (EWGSOP2, AWGS, FNIH, IWGS), current guidelines for Vit D sufficiency, and molecular mechanisms related to Vit D receptor (VDR) signaling in muscle tissue. Low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels are consistently associated with decreased muscle strength, reduced physical performance, and increased prevalence of sarcopenia. Although interventional trials using Vit D supplementation report variable results, benefits are more evident in individuals with baseline deficiency and when combined with protein intake and resistance training. Mechanistically, Vit D influences muscle health via genomic and non-genomic pathways, regulating calcium homeostasis, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, and inflammatory signaling. Vit D deficiency represents a modifiable risk factor for sarcopenia and functional impairment in older adults. While current evidence supports its role in muscular health, future high-quality trials are needed to establish optimal serum thresholds and dosing strategies for prevention and treatment. An individualized, multimodal approach involving supplementation, exercise, and nutritional optimization appears most promising. Full article

Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, such as dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, autologous fat grafting, intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, are increasingly popular worldwide due to their convenience and aesthetic benefits. While generally considered safe, these procedures can result in rare but serious ophthalmological complications. The most catastrophic adverse events include central retinal artery occlusion and ischemic optic neuropathy, which may lead to irreversible vision loss. Other complications include diplopia, ptosis, dry eye, and orbital cellulitis, with varying degrees of severity and reversibility. Awareness of potential ocular risks, appropriate patient selection, and adherence to safe injection techniques are crucial for preventing complications. This narrative review summarizes the incidence, mechanisms, clinical features, risk factors, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies of ocular complications associated with aesthetic medical procedures. A narrative literature review was conducted, emphasizing data from clinical studies, case series, and expert consensus published between 2015 and 2025. Special attention is given to anatomical danger zones, the pathophysiological pathways of filler embolization, and the roles of hyaluronidase and hyperbaric oxygen therapy in acute management. Although many complications are self-limited or reversible, prompt recognition and intervention are critical to prevent permanent sequelae. The increasing prevalence of these procedures demands enhanced education, informed consent, and interdisciplinary collaboration between aesthetic providers and ophthalmologists. Full article

To date, few studies have been published for cities in Germany that take into account climate change and changing hydrologic patterns due to increases in building density. This study investigates the efficiency of LID for past and future climate in the polycentric agglomeration area Frankfurt, Main (Central Germany) using observed and projected climate (model) data for a standard reference period (1961–1990) and a high emission scenario (RCP 8.5) as well as a climate protection scenario (RCP 2.6), under 40 to 75 percent building density. LID elements included green roofs, permeable pavement and bioretention cells. SWMM5 was used as model for simulation purposes. A holistic evaluation of simulation results showed that effectiveness increases incrementally with LID implementation percentage and inverse to building density if implemented onto at least 50 percent of available impervious area. Building density had a higher adverse effect on LID efficiency than climate change. The results contribute to the understanding of localized effects of climate change and the implementation of adaption strategies to that end. The results of this study can be helpful for the scientific community regarding future investigations of LID implementation efficiency in dense residential areas and used by local governments to provide suggestions for urban water balance revaluation. Floods are natural hazards that have the greatest socioeconomic impact worldwide, given that 23% of the global population live in urban areas at risk of flooding. In this field of research, the analysis of flood risk has traditionally been studied based mainly on approaches specific to civil engineering such as hydraulics and hydrology. However, these patterns of approaching the problem in research seem to be changing in recent years. During the last few years, a growing trend has been observed towards the use of methodology-based approaches oriented towards urban planning and land use management. In this context, this study analyzes the evolution of these research patterns in the field by developing a bibliometric meta-analysis of 2694 scientific publications on this topic published in recent decades. Evaluating keyword co-occurrence using VOSviewer software version 1.6.20, we analyzed how phenomena such as climate change have modified the way of addressing the study of this problem, giving growing weight to the use of integrated approaches improving territorial planning or implementing adaptive strategies, as opposed to the more traditional vision of previous decades, which only focused on the construction of hydraulic infrastructures for flood control. Background: High Mobility Group Box 1 is a mediator in inflammation, acting as a damage-associated molecular pattern molecule in various diseases. This review examines its role in nasal inflammatory disorders, such as chronic rhinosinusitis and allergic rhinitis. Methods: A comprehensive review of recent literature was conducted using a refined PubMed search strategy, focusing on studies published from 2015 onward and targeting HMGB1’s role in nasal inflammatory diseases. Results: HMGB1 emerges as a central factor in amplifying and modulating inflammatory responses through interactions with multiple receptors. It regulates cytokine production, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and tissue remodeling, particularly in eosinophilic CRS. While discrepancies in the literature highlight its context-dependent activity, therapeutic strategies like glycyrrhetinic acid and PPAR-γ agonists demonstrate potential in modulating its effects. Conclusions: HMGB1 represents a promising diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target in nasal inflammatory diseases. However, due to its intrinsic nature and multiple localizations, much remains to be understood. It is precisely by reflecting on its role as an “inflammatory crossroads” that we aim to underscore the need for targeted translational research to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic applications of HMGB1. This narrative review explores the integration of theranostics and artificial intelligence (AI) in neuro-oncology, addressing the urgent need for improved diagnostic and treatment strategies for brain tumors, including gliomas, meningiomas, and pediatric central nervous system neoplasms. A comprehensive literature search was conducted through PubMed, Scopus, and Embase for articles published between January 2020 and May 2025, focusing on recent clinical and preclinical advancements in personalized neuro-oncology. The review synthesizes evidence on novel theranostic agents—such as Lu-177-based radiopharmaceuticals, CXCR4-targeted PET tracers, and multifunctional nanoparticles—and highlights the role of AI in enhancing tumor detection, segmentation, and treatment planning through advanced imaging analysis, radiogenomics, and predictive modeling. Key findings include the emergence of nanotheranostics for targeted drug delivery and real-time monitoring, the application of AI-driven algorithms for improved image interpretation and therapy guidance, and the identification of current limitations such as data standardization, regulatory challenges, and limited multicenter validation. The review concludes that the convergence of AI and theranostic technologies holds significant promise for advancing precision medicine in neuro-oncology, but emphasizes the need for collaborative, multidisciplinary research to overcome existing barriers and enable widespread clinical adoption. Background: The advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment have significantly improved survival rates in pediatric patients, with five-year survival now exceeding 80% in many high-income countries. However, these life-saving therapies often carry long-term consequences, including impaired fertility. The reproductive health of childhood cancer survivors has emerged as a key issue in survivorship care. Objective: This narrative review aims to examine the gonadotoxic effects of cancer treatments on pediatric patients, evaluate fertility preservation strategies in both males and females, and provide guidance on the long-term monitoring of reproductive function post treatment. Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed, including randomized trials, cohort studies, and clinical guidelines published up to March 2024. The keywords focused on pediatric oncology, fertility, and reproductive endocrinology. Studies were selected based on relevance to treatment-related gonadotoxicity, fertility preservation options, and follow-up care. Results: Radiotherapy and alkylating agents pose the highest risk to fertility. Postpubertal patients have access to standardized preservation techniques, while prepubertal options remain experimental. Long-term effects include premature ovarian insufficiency, azoospermia, hypogonadism, and uterine dysfunction. The psychosocial impacts, especially in female survivors, are profound and often overlooked. Conclusions: Fertility preservation should be discussed at diagnosis and integrated into treatment planning in pediatric patients with cancer. While options for postpubertal patients are established, more research is needed to validate safe and effective strategies for younger populations. A multidisciplinary approach and long-term surveillance are essential for safeguarding future reproductive potential in childhood cancer survivors. Full article

This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates how DFs influence BP regulation by modulating gut microbial composition and enhancing short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production. Methods: MEDLINE and EMBASE were systematically searched for interventional studies published between January 2014 and December 2024. Eligible studies assessed the effects of DFs or other prebiotics on systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) in addition to changes in gut microbial or SCFA composition. Results: Of the 3010 records screened, nineteen studies met the inclusion criteria (seven human, twelve animal). A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted on six human trials reporting post-intervention BP values. Prebiotics were the primary intervention. In hypertensive cohorts, prebiotics significantly reduced SBP (−8.5 mmHg; 95% CI: −13.9, −3.1) and DBP (−5.2 mmHg; 95% CI: −8.5, −2.0). A pooled analysis of hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients showed non-significant reductions in SBP (−4.5 mmHg; 95% CI: −9.3, 0.3) and DBP (−2.5 mmHg; 95% CI: −5.4, 0.4). Animal studies consistently showed BP-lowering effects across diverse etiologies. Prebiotic interventions restored bacterial genera known to metabolize DFs to SCFAs (e.g., Bifidobacteria, Akkermansia, and Coprococcus) and increased SCFA levels. Mechanistically, SCFAs act along gut–organ axes to modulate immune, vascular, and neurohormonal pathways involved in BP regulation. Conclusions: Prebiotic supplementation is a promising strategy to reestablish BP homeostasis in hypertensive patients. Benefits are likely mediated through modulation of the gut microbiota and enhanced SCFA production. Full article

Male-factor infertility accounts for approxiamately half of all infertility cases globally, yet therapeutic options remain limited for individuals with no retrievable spermatozoa, such as those with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). In recent years, artificial gametogenesis has emerged as a promising avenue for fertility restoration, driven by advances in two complementary strategies: organotypic in vitro spermatogenesis (IVS), which aims to complete spermatogenesis ex vivo using native testicular tissue, and in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), which seeks to generate male gametes de novo from pluripotent or reprogrammed somatic stem cells. To evaluate the current landscape and future potential of these approaches, a narrative, semi-systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus for the period January 2010 to February 2025. Additionally, landmark studies published prior to 2010 that contributed foundational knowledge in spermatogenesis and testicular tissue modeling were reviewed to provide historical context. This narrative review synthesizes multidisciplinary evidence from cell biology, tissue engineering, and translational medicine to benchmark IVS and IVG technologies against species-specific developmental milestones, ranging from rodent models to non-human primates and emerging human systems. Key challenges—such as the reconstitution of the blood–testis barrier, stage-specific endocrine signaling, and epigenetic reprogramming—are discussed alongside critical performance metrics of various platforms, including air–liquid interface slice cultures, three-dimensional organoids, microfluidic “testis-on-chip” devices, and stem cell-derived gametogenic protocols. Particular attention is given to clinical applicability in contexts such as NOA, oncofertility preservation in prepubertal patients, genetic syndromes, and reprocutive scenarios involving same-sex or unpartnered individuals. Safety, regulatory, and ethical considerations are critically appraised, and a translational framework is outlined that emphasizes biomimetic scaffold design, multi-omics-guided media optimization, and rigorous genomic and epigenomic quality control. While the generation of functionally mature sperm in vitro remains unachieved, converging progress in animal models and early human systems suggests that clinically revelant IVS and IVG applications are approaching feasibility, offering a paradigm shift in reproductive medicine. Securing thermal comfort while minimizing energy consumption in educational buildings is vital for achieving sustainable development goals. Drawing on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, this systematic review synthesizes findings from 84 peer-reviewed studies published over the past decade, with a focus on how thermal comfort and energy use are assessed in educational contexts. The review identifies three primary research themes: climate resilience, multidimensional human-centric design, and energy decarbonization. However, it also reveals that existing studies have placed disproportionate emphasis on the environmental dimension, with insufficient exploration of issues related to social equity and governance structures. To address this gap, this study introduces an ESG-driven theoretical framework encompassing seven dimensions: thermal environment stability, multimodal thermal comfort assessment integration, sustainable energy use, heterogeneous thermal demand equality, passive–active design synergy, participatory thermal data governance, and educational thermal well-being inclusivity. By fostering interdisciplinary convergence and emphasizing inclusive stakeholder engagement, the proposed framework provides a resilient and adaptive foundation for enhancing indoor environmental quality in educational buildings while advancing equitable climate and energy strategies. Taste Dysfunction in Head and Neck Cancer: Pathophysiology and Clinical Management—A Comprehensive Review

Background/Objectives: Taste dysfunction is a highly prevalent yet underrecognized complication among patients with head and neck cancer (HNC), significantly impairing nutritional intake, treatment adherence, and quality of life (QoL). This comprehensive review synthesizes current knowledge on the pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical management of taste dysfunction associated with HNC and its treatments, particularly chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Methods: A structured literature search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for articles published between January 2015 and February 2025. Studies were included if they investigated taste dysfunction related to HNC, focusing on pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic interventions. A total of 47 original studies were analyzed through a narrative synthesis due to heterogeneity in study designs and outcomes. Results: Taste dysfunction in HNC patients arises from tumor-related inflammation, cytotoxic injury from chemotherapy, and radiation-induced epithelial and neural damage. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy often exert synergistic negative effects on gustatory function. Management strategies identified include dietary counselling, nutritional supplementation (zinc, lactoferrin, monosodium glutamate, miraculin), pharmacological agents targeting salivary function, and non-pharmacological interventions such as acupuncture, photobiomodulation, and reconstructive surgery. However, the evidence is limited by small sample sizes, methodological variability, and the frequent exclusion of HNC patients from broader dysgeusia trials. Reported prevalence of taste dysfunction ranged from 39% to 97.4%, with higher rates observed among patients treated with radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy. Conclusions: Taste dysfunction remains a critical yet unmet clinical challenge in HNC patients. High-quality, targeted research is urgently needed to develop standardized assessments and evidence-based management strategies to improve patient outcomes. Full article
